LSU had a two-loss national title team
quote:and lsu has the better overall winning percentage. again, taking the bad without the good.
head-to-head the record is even, with UF having a few more blowout wins

So it comes down to LSU and UF, with the edge going to LSU due to better overall win%.
Disagree.
2 game difference in win percentage is nullified by the fact that UF has been to 5 BCS bowl games to LSUs 4.
BCS Bowl Game >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2 game difference in overall record

Except that LSU has gone 8-3 in bowl games, 4-0 in BSC bowls, while UF has gone 6-5 in bowls games and 4-1 in BCS bowls.
LSU has more bowl wins over all, and just as many BCS bowl wins.
It's pretty damn close, but I'm still going with LSU.

You are a troll if you say LSU has 1.5 titles. They have 2. USC and LSU each have 1 total from that year, not .5. And LSU's is the one recognized by the accepted BCS.
The major point to make is the BCS was a trophy that took several polls into consideration including the AP in 2003. So really an AP title wasn't worth that much at that point and we know the media likes to use their polls to make stories also.

so what we've learned from this thread is that in order to keep lsu from being the top team since 2000, lsu's accomplishments have to be ignored to some degree in favor of whatever negatives apply to lsu. no other team in america has a better combination of accomplishments with fewer negatives. not even the close second choice, florida. usc, okla, osu don't even belong in the conversation.

Also I think depending on what happens the rest of this year with LSU could go along way to completely without a doubt cementing the fact that LSU has without a doubt been the most successful, concistant, powerful program since 2000.

so without reading all 24 pages, I'm guessing everyone agreed unanimously on lsu?

Montana is D2, Boise is D1, just like LSU

I can't believe this thread is still going.

I was just thinking the same thing.

Exactly, LSU was 5-0 against the final top 15 ranked teams
The second best resume was 2-1

Wait for the day when the AP awards LSU their trophy and the BCS gives theirs to someone else.
You WILL change your mind on that day.
I will not.
I love how people bitch and moan about "The stupid computers" and talk about how the coaches poll is worthless because the coaches don't have time to look at any teams besides their own and their opponents, and how the coaches let assistants fill out their ballots, which are skewed to promote thier own team - until the coaches poll puts their team at #1.
The AP never agreed to be a part of the BCS, thier poll was just used as part of the formula untill 2003 when the results were different and the AP didn't want to compromise their results depending on what a bunch of computers and GAs came up with.
When you win the BCS it's the coaches saying you have the best team. When you win the AP it's the sprots qwriters saying you have the best team - when you win both, you are undisputed national champions, when you only win one, there is dispute.
To ignore these facts is simply ignorant.

LSU has never been any good. Their 2007 national title team wouldn't beat this year's Kentucky team, either.
LSU was the third worst team of the past decade... and they're backing into that, too.
