No, not during that time period. You are right. But, after Saban got there, this is how Bama defined those years for both Auburn and LSU.

I'll give you that Ala defined Aub's success that way (which is wrong) but I don't remember people saying that about LSU. I mean you guys won 2 titles. Who was saying this?

And what will your argument be if Alabama goes 13-1, with the only loss to LSU?

It depends on LSU's record. If LSU is like 8-4 and beats Bama, then I will have no argument. The win will be more of a fluke, obviously, and will prove nothing.

Kind of like when Arkansas or Ole Miss beat LSU.

If LSU beats Bama in November in Tuscaloosa, then you have to consider that I am right and that LSU's program has a leg up on Alabama overall, including coaching, recruiting, talent development, etc.

Factor in also that LSU will probably be the favorite to beat the Tide in 2012 as well.

Why do you care so much about what Alabama fans think? LSU had some damn good teams in that run, don't cheapen them by groveling for our approval or a pat on the back.

Both programs are up now and neither has an excuse. Enjoy it!

You weren't here during that time. Pretty much every Bama fan on this board from 2007-08. When Saban was hired, all of LSU's success the previous 6-7 years was discounted and co-opted by Bama fans and this line of reasoning was used constantly.

I'm pretty secure as an LSU fan. I live in Alabama and can hold my own.

Just saying that this makes sense if you stop and think about it.

Or, maybe every year is different and all programs have ebbs and flows.

LSU has a claim to team of the decade, and here this guy is worrying about what Bama fans think. I don't get it.

I meant '2012', but I could see 2013 as well.

How can you even make that argument? Saban is the only coach to win a national title at two different schools in the poll era. Alabama has out-recruited LSU since 2007, if you believe in recruiting rankings. And Alabama has the most first round draft picks the last three years.

I don't. I saw the game last year, and I'd have to rate LSU's talent at equal to better based on how they looked on the field.

Well, this is a message board where we share our opinions and I wasn't really singling out Bama fans in asking what people thought.

My point is that much of the arguments that were being made from 2007-2009 clearly don't hold water about Bama being back up and LSU being in decline. Just pointing that out. If they do hold water, then you might be able to reverse them just as easily.

My personal perspective is that college football is always cyclical and it is almost impossible in this day and age for a program to stay at the top for more than a 2-3 year period without reloading or slipping a little. FSU/Nebraska in the 90's, Miami in the 80's, and Alabama in the 70's don't happen much anymore. USC was doing it this decade, but we see what happened to them. LSU and Florida were the others and they both slipped, with LSU rising again.

Cycles.

Scoreboard.

Games are played on the field, not in recruiting rankings.

We are talking about teams, not individual talent.

This board was flooded with Bama fans after Saban's hiring claiming they will be back in their rightful spot, and the only reason LSU was so dominant was because Bama was on probation.

With LSU back on the upswing and a solid QB situation for several years to come, it isn't unreasonable to think that 2008-09 were an aberration and LSU will return to consistent winning against Bama as they have in the past.

Did you sleep thru the 90's?

Nope, and we were wide awake during the 2000's as well.

You didn't make an argument solely on recruiting in that post. You made an argument about coaching, recruiting, and player development. Obviously that argument has holes in it. You're trying to make an arugment about the future because of a three point win last year. Leading you to question Alabama's success in 2008-09, overlooking the fact that they won 24 consecutive regular season games in that stretch, including becoming the SEC's only 14-0 team.

Is Alabama not allowed to have a down year anymore?

If you can consider top 10 'down' I mean.
