If you read the Tuscaloosa news article yesterday it said the same thing. It said that the C&D letter made specific reference to the guy selling and distributing signed merchandise. The article said Alabama asked him to stop selling and distributing signed merchandise by current student Athletes. I am not trying to flame but doesn't that prove a violation of the bylaw. The debate was did the guy profit from having the merchandise in his store correct? I do believe many people had post the other day saying similar things that it was not like he was selling the merchandise etc... Well now they are pretty much admitting that he was profiting from past and current players correct?

correct. and once the compliance department found out, they stopped him which is exactly what the ncaa expects them to do. so, no problems.

Its not a violation for him to sell autographed stuff. Only if the players were getting the benefits

That's not actually what the article says.

quote:

The storefront has signed Alabama items on display, and a source close to the situation indicated Alabama's December letter made specific reference to the sale or distribution of items autographed by current Alabama student-athletes.

The article does not make clear at all that he was selling the items. In fact, the wording makes it seem like he was warned not to sell the items in his display, rather than told to stop selling.

I, for one, would like some clarification on this from the writer of the story.
