Get out of here. This screams ignorance, and you're very ignorant for "guessing" this.

What exactly is a "flagship university"?
Posted on 12/23/10 at 11:49 am to TheHiddenFlask
If by "flagship university" you mean the lead university in its system, then Auburn is a "flagship university" because it isn't part (thank the dear sweet lord) of the Univ. of Alabama system. Auburn Montgomery is the lead university of two universities (Auburn Montgomery being the other) governed by the Auburn University Board of Trustees.

What's your definition of flagship? They were extablished first. We have more students, make more money, have better academics, and have a better football team, so I really don't give a shite.

those of us in "systems" of higher education are frequently actively discouraged from using the term "flagship" to refer to our campuses because it is seen as hurtful to the self-esteem of colleagues at other institutions in our systems. The use of the term is seen by some as elitist and boastful. It is viewed by many, in the context of the politics of higher education, as "politically incorrect." ... Only in the safe company of alumni is one permitted to use the term

LSU was a flagship university just a few years ago...

There is no question about it. Our main campus is about 10,000 more than Clemson. We also have satellite campuses all over the state that Clemson doesn't that, if counted, would put us at about 22,000 more students than Clemson.

I think you have the Mississippi's backwards and I think UGA is a flagship.

Yes, the University of Kentucky is the flagship school in the state of Kentucky.
