The Wildcat is a formation to give us another blocker at the point of attack.

We don't use it to confuse the defense or to "trick" them.

Now bammers are saying the wildcat isn't a gimmick cause they didn't try to 'trick' anybody.

Dude I recall PLENTY of times when Bama was in the wildcat and they brought Julio Jones in motion before the snap and FAKE the handoff to him to TRICK the defense into thinking JJ had the ball.

LOL, dude, u cant shite on another team for running 'trick plays' when you've ran the same EXACT ones. It's called hypocrisy

When your basic offense runs "gimmick plays" pretty much as its base offense, I say that we can call it whatever the frick we want. Hell, even your kickoff team has adopted that little kicker-walks-away-from-the-tee-and-then-hauls-arse-at-it gimmick. Yeah, you guys got an onside kick recovery on it against us, but you also faked the same thing against NW.

Are you entirely thrilled by winning with gimmicks, or do you think y'all can win playing real football???

Let me tell you one more thing you SHOULD have learned in the third grade:

National Championship > Outback Bowl

Fine, Bama won the NC with the help of trick/gimmicky plays.

You're missing the point, yall shite on AU for running trick plays when you guys have done the same EXACT ONES.

Not as a base offense. But hey, as long as you're happy with it and happy with winning 8 games a year, it's fine with me.

Dude, take a look at your last drive against SCAR. You guys couldn't move the ball UNTIL you got in the wildcat. Your WINNING drive consisted of a gimmick formation.

Eloquently put.

But it is not our fault that your players are easy to trick.

And what is "real football?"
Does that mean there is "fake football?"

Not easy to trick enough to get a victory over them.

Dude, Bama was VERY reliant of the wildcat this year. The very first play Bama ran this year was out of the wildcat, the very first play they ran in the Iron Bowl was out of the wildcat.

Hell I even go on a limb and say Bama gain more yds out of wildcat this year than AU did.

No sir, it is not.

Especially when Chris Todd is the qb, so has to Malzahn read the D for him on the sideline.

But just to be clear, the vertical pass is not a trick play.

maybe 5% of the offensive plays total for the year were out of the direct snap formation. If one were to go back and look, on maybe 3 of those did it not amount to Ingram going off-tackle. Once in the Ark game, once in the Iron bowl, and one other I can't remember.

As far as gaining yardage, I don't doubt that. You ran the direct snap more, but we had the luxury of having the Heisman Trophy winner taking the snap.

At the end of the day, UA ran 95% traditional formations. 5% amounts to a wrinkle to supplement the offense. AU ran misdirection and gimmick for 95% of their O. If you can't see the difference, I can't help you.

I've never heard anyone, Bama fan or otherwise, use this "tick play card" you speak of...

That's because no one really calls them trick plays. They just use a ton of non-traditional formations and constantly use misdirection. For example, Tate would often line up 10 yards behind the QB or they would line up receivers in the backfield. Not really "trick" plays, but Malzhan's offense certainly relies more on deception and confusion than outmanning your opponent.

Interesting word choice.

About 30 years ago the shotgun was a gimmick formation. Now it is the base formation for the majority of college football programs, and the super majority of highschool football teams.

The game of football is always evolving. I would like to be ahead of the curve. I dont really care if we never run the I formation again, as long as we win.

This is exactly how I feel about their offense. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I think that is the right attitude to have. However, I don't think you will if you abandon the power formations. You will certainly get W's out of it, but a trip to atlanta will only be for the Chik-fil-a bowl.

CFBFAN, seriously, shut the frick up. Your team finished 5th in the SEC west this year. Deal with that instead of being a god damn pest to this years champs fan-base.
