“They could not have been encouraged that the President of the United States, Harry Truman, was known to have the prejudices of his community when it came to views of race. He used racial slurs, told racist jokes, opposed sit-ins and intermarriage and called Dr. Martin Luther King a troublemaker. Whether he would act as President as he felt in private was not the question. It was assumed he would follow the lead of most other politicians of that time period and not show sympathy for African Americans’ goals for equal treatment.”
“ A few years later Truman made public accusations that southern lunch counter demonstrations were orchestrated by Communists, and argued that: “If anyone came into my store and tried to stop business I’d throw him out. The Negro should behave himself and show he’s a good citizen” (Papers 5:437). In response to Truman’s comments, King wrote him, acknowledging his previous admiration for Truman’s civil rights record and expressing his confusion and disappointment over the former president’s statement. King stated: “It is a sad day for our country when men come to feel that oppressed people cannot desire freedom and human dignity unless they are motivated by Communism.… When the accusations come from a man who was once chosen by the American people to serve as the chief custodian of the nation’s destiny then they rise to shocking and dangerous proportions” (Papers 5:438). King then asked Truman for a public apology, but no reply from Truman has been located. Following his tenure as president, Truman retired to Independence, Missouri. He died on 26 December 1972.”

Southeast Conference, SEC

Then in the future, let’s allpare back down to 6 or 7 leagues of 10/12 teams when we realize that expansion watered down the two best conferences. Get the old SWC, big8 and big east back and we can have radial, regional rivalries. Usc and ND can still have their rivalry. Go look at the sec’s schedules back in the mid 80s. They were awesome
The 48 or 64 team super league does this. Let the league do TV deals and pay players and have limited NIL ownership. Let the league control schedules with 2 conferences and let the old conferences be the divisions in the conference. That allows regional integrity in rivalries and interesting matchups to drive TV revenue. Let the players be employees of the league to allow a reset of transfer guidelines to the old NCAA limited transfer rules. This also eliminates any Title IX nonsense as it removes scholarships for football. The student athletes can still get non athletic scholarships as a means to supplement their pay as well as NIL deals (limited and approved by the league).
Schools would still pay coaches and staffs and receive a lump sum of the TV rights. Schools not in the league would continue on as before. Pay would scale based on travel team vs practice squad players.
Bowls are play off games with real interest leading to an actual title game based on merit.
That is the future.

Oh please, you really think that’s anything but a low-effort troll attempt? You have been around long enough to know better. I didn’t even say it was “nice” bait. I think it’s dumb. Regardless, he got 2 pages worth of bites and counting.

Let's call it "The Longhorn Conference". When we rename the SECN as "Longhorn Network" we won't have to waste money on the usual rebranding cost.
