This stuff doesn't matter nearly as much as it used to and Oats knows this. When players weren't making millions, the bones you threw at them were facilities. Now it's all about NIL. Like Saban said, we tell them about this and that and this but the recruits just sit and just want to know how much money they are gonna make. Oats wants a nice collective to buy the best talent.. If he gets that they'll play in a cracker box.. It matters little to the players where they play. It matters what you pay.

Oats is the type of coach that as long as he is at Alabama, he’s going to produce a good team near the top of the SEC standings. However, he’s not really a threat to go deep in the Tournament unless he gets a relatively easy draw like this year.

He was 4-11 this season against the KenPom Top 30…. And 21-1 against everyone else.

He runs up the score against mediocre/bad teams but then typically loses against great competition.

His run to the Final Four consisted of beating the #101, #52, #9, and #19 teams according to KenPom. Thats about as easy as a path as any team could ask for.

He was -14 against UConn
He was -6 against Purdue
He was -14 against Auburn in 2 games
He was -27 against Tennessee in 2 games
He was -3 against Creighton
He was -13 against Arizona
He was -1 against Clemson in 2 games
He was -22 against Kentucky
He was -27 against Florida in 3 games

Literally the only Top 30 team Bama outscored on the season this year was #9 North Carolina… by 2.

He’s a good coach, but not as great as Bama fans make him out to be.

Wow, you seem really smart about basketball.

Is this worse than losing to the #90 team in the round of 64? You are implying it is. I guess I don’t understand Auburn basketball.

I personally don't blame Cal. I'd rather compete with Pittman than Stoops.

Pittman will be gone by mid season and this Cal hire shows we are serious when we go for a new football coach this go around

And now, just a few short days later, Nate Oats is under paid and under appreciated by Alabama. He is the top young up and coming coach in the country

It's amazing how fast opinions change when anything Alabama is involved.

Out of curiosity I went back and checked out the Bama hires Nate Oats Rant thread. There are some real gems.

He did this after losing all three assistants to head coaching jobs and returning only two players with 10+ mpg from a team that was the #1 overall seed. Dude has more conference titles since COVID than Georgia, South Carolina, Ole Miss, A&M, Missouri, and Arkansas each have since joining the SEC.

No one has said that Auburn didn’t underperform this year in the Tournament.

But like Oats, Pearl had a Final Four run under his belt and he beat the #53, #17, #7, and #8 teams to get there…. And lost to the #1 team by a point rather than 14.

Bruce is not leaving. Zero chance.

So in one post you declare that Oats would listen to an offer from Kentucky, and then in another you declare that there is no way that Pearl would.

Sounds like you’re just posting what you’re wishing for.

I wonder if Pearl will have more post season success at Kentucky than he did at Auburn?

Pearl obviously loves Auburn in a very public way. He’s also 64 years old and has a son that will likely take over the program when he decides to retire. He has a $2+ million lake house 40 minutes from campus.

He has far deeper roots in Auburn than Oats has at Alabama. Not saying Oats will leave but he’d be far more likely to leave out of the two.

Why would we want to get rid of a coach Oats has a comfortable record over?

Or, said another way, his 4 conference titles the last 4 years are 57% of the number basketball blue blood Auburn has won since it joined the SEC nearly 100 years ago.

Exactly, I'd just stay away from him if I were a program looking for a coach.

Pearl probably has him beat in every meaningful metric anyway.

I mean he's been there 10 years — probably has more championships, more NCAAT wins, a better W/L record, a better head-to-head record.

I'd just hire Bruce and be done with it.
