I've played almost every sport and swimming is the hardest. Sweating while you swim, getting out of the pool puking in a trash can because you're pushing yourself so hard. I was in the pool at 6am before school started and 4pm after school every single day. You're damn right it's a sport.

He is seriously a really great guy.

3rd time you've said this, so I'm gonna speak on it. Are you aware of Caroline Burckle? She's the Olympian he was sexually harassing while a national team coach. If it weren't for Phelps, usa swimming would've given him the Mel Tucker treatment. Instead they made him a 2012 Olympic coach a few months later. That's not shite seriously, really great guys do. Luckily for Bob they executed his co-defendant Sean Hutchison instead.

Is he a great coach, sure, the results speak for themselves. Constantly calling him a great person is iffy. His behavior shouldn't have been tolerated, but giving him or the Mitch Iveys of the world a 2nd or 3rd chance isn't a great look for any sport.

Why do we average 10 people each and every damn day dying from this easy excercising by Jan 2nd or 3rd we're exceeding the yearly deaths of any other sport.

Here is a link to the story.. USA Today

It's confusing.. but I think Bob texted her saying..

"Sean wants you. I want your brother."
(her brother was a swimmer who he wanted to coach)

Then maybe Sean starts using Bob's phone?
Then the conversation gets a little weird.

She reports the inappropriate conversation.

Bob gets a slap on the wrist because he shouldn't have been texting her at all, but his part of the conversation was about swimming. eta: She was 24 at the time..

Sean got in trouble for what he said to her and he also got in trouble for something similar with another girl.

TLDR: Bob didn't really do anything wrong if I'm reading this correctly.. which is why the Olympics hired him.. and why Texas just hired him.

Negative. He was at UM 05-08, this occurred in like October of 2011. Didn't become public until 2018, for some strange reason I'm certainly not saying it's the most egregious offense by a coach ever, just we may need to pump the brakes on singing his praises as such a great guy. It easily could've been a 1 off frick up for bowman, spurred on by his now permabanned buddy there with him that day, but it still happened. Just after 3 great guy mentions, I had to say something.

I've definitely have met him before. Odd way to say you don't know he spent multiple years in Birmingham... but i actually met him via nbac. Sometimes you have to train while on vacation. Phelps was like 9-10 at the time. It was anita nall and beth botsford era.

Bob got a slap on the wrist because she was officially retired. Had she not made that move a couple months prior he'd have been proper fricked. So why was Bob messaging a retired swimmer about "swimming"

Given the number of women's basketball threads, I guess it makes sense for this thread to seem relevant.

The SEC has a rich swimming tradition. I do not feel bad posting this. Florida, Auburn, Georgia have all won national titles. Alabama and Tennessee have had multiple high national finishes. With Texas rolling in, it gets even deeper.

SEC is gonna drop a bunch of Olympic medals in this sport, again.

It's honestly not fair to Tennessee to put us in the same category. It's pain me deeply to say it. Kentucky was doing pretty well recently until Lars Jorgensen was outed for going further than bowman. I have 0 respect for coaches going after their athletes, regardless of age.

Ryan is doing good work taking over after Taylor. He has quickly surpassed Alabama as the dominant program in the state.

Wasn't hard to do when one school hires someone with success at a mid, like Wocho at Houston, vs hiring someone with 0 coaching experience

Margo should have never been hired over Ozzie in the first place. In the coaching world, I have been told no one in the swim world believed she ws best...but Alabama 's AD wanted a female hire. They preceded this with the Corey Stickels nonsense. Just bad hires.

And the next poster about UT winning all those B12 titles in a row...there is one nugget that makes that post deceiving is that only 3-4 teams in the B12 have had teams over that span. This number has fluctuated, but UT is a big fish in a very small pond. It will not be that way in the SEC>

Thank you!!!! She is the reason coley quit, plus ian finnerty helped some. I'll never forgive Byrne for running off Jonty and replacing him with fricking Coley/Margo... unless Deboer is magically better than Saban Even then I'll still be pretty salty over it.
