Rick Ray at State was bad although that is more on the Athletic Director at the time for even hiring him.
But to be fair, he did walk into a dumpster fire and did leave the program in better shape than he found it. After State, he was the HC at SE Missouri State and he was even worse there than he was at State. His overall W-L % is about 34%. No way to sugarcoat that.

You could say Mike Price, but to be fair he never lost a game. He did lose his dignity though

Wasn’t Smoke coach of the year with two World Series appearances?
He didn’t live up to expectations and the program declined. However, he won 40+ games years 1-4 and had a winning record year 5 when he was let go.

I'm old, old oldschool-- go WAAAY back and you'll find that Kentucky had two horrendous football coaches from 1962 to 1972.
Charlie Bradshaw-- the hellfire and brimstone preaching Southern Baptist preacher who had his team lifting barbells and doing squats in the pouring rain, on a muddy field.
Bradshaw's record in 7 seasons:25-41-4 (12-30-2 SEC)
John Ray 1969-1972. Record in 4 seasons: 10-33 (4-24 SEC).

Smoke followed the greatest baseball coach in history and didn’t live up to those standards. That’s his biggest crime.
Smoke won a SEC championship. Went to 2 CWS and won 66% of his games at LSU. While that’s not up to the standards LSU fans expect for our baseball program that certainly doesn’t qualify for worst coach ever at LSU.

If we are just going football coaches it is Ears and Chad locked in a battle to the death.
I hate to say it... but I've got to give the nod to Ears. As terrible as Chad was, and he was the drizzling shits, Ears somehow managed to be even worse.
