Tells me you don't much about the NCAA tournament. The NCAA only invited 25 teams to its tournament back then. In 1970, LSU went to the NIT and lost in the semifinals to Marquette. That would be Marquette, which turned down a bid to the NCAA tournament and went on to win the NIT instead.
