Still trying to understand Byrne’s thought process with DeBoer.

In any transition you want it to go as seamlessly as possible.
Sure replacing Saban is impossible.
But man, why wouldn’t you go with a coach that leads a major program in the SE? Like Norvell- assuming he would take the job.
I don’t care what anyone says about how good a coach Devboer is, if you are not an ELITE recruiter you are toast.
DeBoer had no track record of high level recruiting.
The past few days he doesn’t seem to have surrounded himself with elite recruiters.
Hell, Brian Kelly knew right away what to do. He hired the king of NOLA recruiting in Frank Wilson from the jump. Then he allowed Frank to go and get the guys he knew were elite recruiters for position coaches with strong LA ties- Hankton at WR coach.
DeBoer seems like he has NO ONE advising him on staff hires as it relates to recurring the south.
The USA HC doesn’t have that track record
The Buffalo HC doesn’t either
This whole DeBoer deal is a head scratcher.
At least with a guy like Norvell you know he can bring guys in and you retain a bunch of your roster and possibly 2025 commits.
Byrne made this a tear down rebuild.

You can downvote all you want.
This is truth.
Byrne jacked up this hire. He went with the best coach but not the best fit.
Look no further than Orgeron. Dude couldn’t coach his way out of a paper-bag, but he could do one thing really well- RECRUIT DUDES. That Ogre couldn’t spell “Xs and Os” but he won a Natty.

I can tell you that Bama was a well oiled machine, and he seems to be screwing it up by making changes when no changes were needed.

He got scared and nervous and didn't want the search process to go on too long, so he just went with the guy who he knew couldn't turn down the money.

This x10000
This tells me Saban either had no input on this hire or Byrne said f it this is my hire.
Kiffin for all his warts would have kept the machine purring. Knows the landscape. Can recruit with the best of them.
Norvell as well.
Recreating the wheel with DeBoer is self inflicted suicide by Bryne.

Indeed.....Kiffin would have been the best hire.

Sounds like you are concerned. Why are you concerned?

The guy who's team quit on him before the bowl game?

I think Byrne really thought he was getting Lanning. The first thing out of his mouth was the new coach would be a recruiter. DeBoer isn't a recruiter at this point.

Yea, he certainly has a good history of holding together a roster.

Didn't you say this was a home run hire?

I believe the only concern Saban had about this hire was making sure it was a Sexton client who got the job.

I'm guessing y'all couldn't afford him. If he would have been good for Bama, surely he would have been good for LSU. Why Kelly?

Panic hire. I think their first couple of choices told them no, so they had to hire someone quickly.

Alabama still has a long way to fall to reach LSU FYI

Other than the playoff, bowl games are meaningless. So, this is a typical response from a fan who doesn't know much. Norvell and Kiffin would've been the correct hires if they would've taken the job.
