Kiffin might be their insurance plan it DeBoer fails. The Kiffen can come in and clean it up. Kiffen would probably demand saban not be on campus and ride of into the sunset. I find it interesting saban will have an office there looking over DeBoer's shoulder.

After all, it is tough to follow a goat. Ask Ray Perkins.

Saban wanted total control when he went to bama. He will not give it up in “retirement.”

He’s going to become the exact problematic outside influence he demanded be removed from bama football when he arrived. No coach will be successful until he completely exits stage left.

Bamas first call was to Lane. He said NO!

How did they frick this up so badly? The only coach I was remotely worried about landing the Alabama job was Kiffin.

He’s shown that he has adapted to the new version of college football better than anyone. He dominates the transfer portal and brings in guys that fit his system to a T.

it.
Why the hell didn’t Auburn hire Kiffin?

Ray Perkins was successful at Alabama. He didn’t leave from the pressure of following a legend. He left because Hugh Culverhouse gave him complete, total control of an NFL franchise … head coach, GM and player personnel director. Someone waves that in front of Kiffin, Freeze or friggin’ Gus Malzahn, you think it ain’t gonna get their attention?

Kiffin will be a good coach at some place other than Ole Miss soon.

KIffin will be the coach in Gainesville this time next year.

I agree. Some buddies and I were discussing this last night over dinner. Kiffin is way ahead of everybody else in the new portal/NIL world and he is a damn good on-field coach. He’s the one I absolutely did not want in Tuscaloosa. I’ll take my chance with Kaitlin DeBoner.

I feel like this kind of stuff starts as message board cope for why their favorite hire won't happen. It is like the Lost Cause narrative. "Actually, everyone wanted him but we were undermined by this selfish shadowy cabal!"

The simple answer is forcing Alabama's hand after the 2016 Peach Bowl due to some sort of detrimental behavior (plenty of rumors about what that was) and likely costing that team a national title has black-balled Kiffin. Frankly, I believe Ole Miss is Kiffin's water level. I do not think he would do well at a bigger program because there would be more criticism about his bizarre game management decisions.

Why would Bama be interested in that?

Which is exactly the way to adapt when you are a mid-tier school like Ole Miss or Colorado trying to compete with the big boys. But if you are Alabama, Ohio St, Michigan, Georgia, etc you focus on recruiting and keeping your talent and then occasionally poaching other players as needed. Not saying Kiffin can’t run a big program, but his elite transfer portal ability isn’t necessarily a quality needed at a big time program already at the top.

We don’t really know this. He’s going all in for the 2024 season. He’s never shown he can win big games consistently or maintain anything.

Ole Miss is just as likely to fall apart after next year as they are to continue the recent success.

Kiffin is basically making his new reputation off of winning a shootout against the worst defense in LSU history.

He’s already a phenomenal coach at Ole Miss. Ole Miss is 3rd in the SEC since the Covid year and currently a top 10 program. He’s also the 3rd most tenured coach in the conference. He’s making top 10 money and can run the program however he chooses without having to put on the dog and pony show like most other schools. He doesn’t have to kiss everyone’s arse like most SEC schools. This is not the same Joey freshwater Kiffin you all remember. He’s building a national contender in Oxford and everyone in the SEC needs to realize things have changed. You have to stop acting like it’s the 90s or early 2000s. Kiffin is ahead of the curb. BTW, I’m not naive enough to think he won’t leave eventually , but there’s only a handful of jobs he would leave for now. It’s time to acknowledge the rebels have a seat at the table and living in the past is the reason programs like Auburn, Florida, A&M etc are being left behind. With the way things have changed with NIL and the transfer portal, just because you won in the past doesn’t mean you’ll win now and just because you haven’t won in the past, doesn’t mean you can’t win now. It seems as if many on this board have a hard time dealing with reality.
