Deboer is exactly the type of hire Byrne would make. He was always my dark horse primarily because of how much he fits the Oats hiring archetype.

I’d agree, with the one exception being that it’s been plastered on every sports news outlet on the internet for the past 24 hours.

Conspiracy theory? Byrne and Sexton know who it is, but they’re working together to get Alabama the best option on a good contract and in return, Jimmy gets to call all his client’s current employers and work up a good offseason raise for them in the process

Word was he was going in the portal (to Texas A&M) last week but got talked out of it. Looks like it's on again.

That changes a lot if he was going to transfer even before Saban retired. Probably gone then.

Pete Thamel: quote: Latest from the team at ESPN -- Washington coach Kalen DeBoer is the focus of Alabama's search, with some clarity expected in the near future. Mike Norvell got a raise. Steve Sarkisian is working on one.

Thamel also tweeted in post hour that Odunze and Dillon Johnson are leaving Washington to enter draft. May not mean anything, especially Odunze being a high pick, but also means they arent rallying to come back and win a title and might know Deboar is gone.

Everyone bitching that sexton is using Alabama facilities to do his work is in the wrong.
We are giving him resources to drive the price up against competition. FSU has had to pony up, Texas has had to pony up and so has Oregon. If deboer doesn’t come then UW has ponied up.
You inflict financial pain on your competitor any chance you get

We don't know anything, besides its not Lanning. It's been 48 hours. Multi million dollar contracts take a little time. Especially if they are negotiating things like assistant salary budget.

Seriously. I'm F5ing as much as the next guy. But some of y'all really need to calm the hell down. For not having a planned head coach and waiting situation, we're moving faster than any head coaching search I've ever seen. Y'all should at least wait until the 73 hour mark before completely losing your minds.

Pump the brakes here... He's been at Fresno and Washington.

And turned them both into winners in two years.

Nick Saban was at Toledo and Michigan State. Kirby was never a head coach. Dabo was never a head coach.

Are you looking for bonafides, or actual performance?

Well he's already beat Texas twice in two years. Sooo...

Can someone in Tuscaloosa organize a “hire Lane” rally in front of the Quad or the stadium? Get the students involved. It’s time for fans to make our voices heard before the blue hairs destroy what Saban built.

That’s a terrible idea. If it’s not Lane, it’s not Lane. This isn’t 1990 anymore. Can you imagine Lane recruiting with that video for the next 4 years?

“These guys really wanted me to come coach in Tuscaloosa, why would you want to play for someone else that wanted me to coach their team instead of the guy they hired?”

Geez, a lot of people need to R-E-L-A-X. No need to take to the streets or start a Twitter campaign yet.

The coaches you just described aren't available. They're already at big name successful schools like Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, etc. They're not making a lateral move to come and be compared to the greatest college coach of all time and be found wanting.

Exactly, Alabama with Saban was one of the absolute top jobs in the country. Alabama without Saban will be difficult: taking over after the GOAT. I can imagine Sark rather staying at Texas. Like Lanning: he'd rather be the coach that comes in AFTER Saban's successor.

I'm not a social media guy, but how do we get a hire kiffin or else hash tag trending toward Byrne ?

Im fricking serious
best chance would probably be to blackmail the booster, but let him know that he needs to either get over his shite or every bama of fan in the country will know who he is, and that Kiffin fricked his wife.

I don't want to lose Bond... but he's not a Jones, Cooper, Smith type of WR. Hopefully he decides to stay, but this wouldn't kill us.

So I once again ask, what coaches are you thinking fit all 5 criteria?

I don't know... Just giving the criteria. It's the search committee job to find the ones to fit.

This is like asking me who I'm going to hire to fill open positions at work. I put out requirements, recruiters bring me names. I interview and hire.

The difference being that in this case, the names that fit your criteria are high profile and known (as opposed to those you interview for work).

So, why don't you give us the name(s) that you think fit your criteria?

You are making accusations that hold no water. First of all you nor I know the motives of another's heart. Secondly, there are plain performance issues that make one leary of Coach Kiffin, such as a career (USC, UT, FAU, OM) 2-19 record vs teams who ended the year ranked. I.e., he does not perform well on the big stage.

There are more reasons but no one can state with certainty, and your opinions are ALWAYS stated as though infallible, the motives of another.

Good post.

Fanduel right now has DeBoer a heavy favorite. I haven't checked their site before today so I dont know when or how much it shifted, but all the little clues are starting to point toward DeBoer.

He could be a better coach than Kiffin we just dont know for sure which is why I wanted Kiffin. We know what Kiffin is.

It also concerns me DeBoer will leave for the NFL in a few years.

However with the current state of things, if DeBoer brings his OC Grubb that CNS wanted in the first place and tells Rees to kick rocks then I could get onboard with this hire. I guess we'll never know how good Kiffin could have been at Alabama.
