I'd rather buy HS recruits and sprinkle in with a few portal racehorses like Fla State has been doing under Norvell.

There was a stat put out recently that 84% of the higher High School recruiters have won every game played so far this seson in FBS.

In the SEC, 74% of wins came by the better overall recruiter so far. That's been the norm for years, even before the portal.

Programs are still built on HS recruits. You better get a bunch of Drew Sanders types if you want to win with the portal in the SEC.

Only 2 teams have won a national championship since 2007 without a top 3 class. Both had generational first round nfl starter quarterbacks.

Clemson with Deshaun Watson
Clemson with Trevor Lawrence

Meh. That’s true on the lines (specifically offensive line), but you can absolutely build the skill positions through the portal, and many teams like Ole Miss do and have. I’m speaking for non-CFP level teams like us.

You can’t flip an offensive line overnight but you can upgrade almost everywhere else, and we by and large have in the Pittman era. The season results don’t indicate it, but we upgraded our entire back 7 on defense last offseason. The year before that we got Landers and Haselwood at WR.

Granted, it doesn’t matter if our offensive line is horrid, which unfortunately was the case this year and likely next.
