Disgusting. I never thought I would see the DSOR series tabled.
Blame Alabama for fighting like hell to keep TSIO for all these years only to bitch because their permanents were going to be auburn, lsu, and tenner
I bet Bama fans would hav e probably loved that as their seasons would hav head better games, but I’m sure the coaches hated it.

this has absolutely nothing to do with alabama, and everything to do with the decisionmakers in charge forcing us to only have 1 permanent opponent.

I highly doubt that. We'll have 8 league games plus tech so we've got 3 chances to play a cupcake to help ease our schedule. We already have H/Hs scheduled with UCLA/FSU/Ohio State/and a few more so I can't imagine adding AU as an OOC game to boot.
I hear you, but those games are easily cancelled. I guess it comes down to how much it means to the two schools vs. playing a cupcake? Also with the 12 team playoff coming having a couple of losses may not be as big of a deal.

Binning the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry is disgusting. Absolutely nothing is sacred to Sankey, SEC university presidents, or the TV executives are helping direct this whole thing.
SEC fans have accepted a lot of change over the last few years, but getting rid of rivalries like the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry and the Third Saturday in October, etc. is almost villainous.

This is correct. I would also assume the stated desire for 'every team to play everyone in the conference' is probably just cover for "ESPN wants more UGA Texas, Bama Oklahoma games and DGAF about regional rivalries". So also about money.

grown adult/middle aged/old people like us care beucase we understand the history behind it.
The people 30 and under likely don't GAF abotu history and tradition and would rather see us play texas and oklahoma more often even if it means losing traditionally important games.
That, and of course...money. All these commissioners and TV people care about is money. I swear I wouldn't be surprised if 10 years from now they start having teams play in London like the NFL does if it generates more revenue.

Of course the nerd has the dumb idea of playing SEC teams OOC

It's not a dumb idea and it's been done before in the ACC, I just don't think our admin woudl go for it considering the strength of our schedule already.
Now, if we cancel our series with clemson/fsu/ohio state/etc then yeah absolutely. Give me 8 conference games (AGAINST MY WILL WHICH I HATE), tech and AU OOC, and 2 cupcakes and I guess I'd live with that, although I'd still bitch about it every year.
Posted on 10/13/23 at 8:44 am to djsdawg
Bitch arse conference with only 8 league games. Oh, we have to have cupcakes instead of another conference game because we already play Arkansas and Mississippi State and Vanderbilt and South Carolina and Kentucky and they're all really hard games because they're ESSCEECEE and no one understands so no way could we play Florida, too.
The reality is the conference just doesn't want half the teams to have another loss to protect the middle/bottom so they can be propped up as good teams.

I know this isn’t the most popular idea, but since the conference is getting too big and can’t handle multiple permanent rivals, I think teams like AU-UGA and Bama-Tenn should continue to schedule each other as a non-conference game when they roll off the schedule.
There’s no rules against it, and actually a precedent for it (cant remember who/when but I remember not too long ago two conference teams playing each other outside of the conference schedule). And if the rivalry and tradition really is important to the schools, they’ll make it happen.
Personally, I’d rather Bama continue to play Tennessee each year they are not on our conference schedule, as opposed to some random mid-teir power 5 or group of 5 school.
Further, if the conference is going 7+1, so 8 conference games out of 12 games, then I think it is very doable. On a year Tennessee is “non-conference” game, we can still play one other quality, big name non-conference opponent, plus two cup cakes. When they are on our conference schedule, allows Bama to play two quality, big name non-SEC teams. Having 10 important, non-cupcake games each year will be much more fun for us as fans. And, as a Bama fan, it would always help our strength of schedule for a playoff committee.

A lot of good points everyone’s making here, no sarcasm. This is dumb.
Sucks for the fans and I bet ticket sales take a hit.
Ex - UF plays OU on Saturday 11am kickoff.
On paper that’s a hot game, but how tf are you supposed to make it in time? 18 hrs in the car? There’s no direct flights from Gainesville to OKC.
Go take a look at flights. Quickest route is with a long pit stop in DFW, ATL or CLT.
Traditions aside, it makes more sense to keep east and west a couple years.
Mizzou, OU, UT to west. Aub and Bama to east.
The fabric of the SEC is already stained.
Everybody loves a good melt!

quote:- almost every player won't because they don't stay 4 years now - let alone at the same school -
so almost every guy at your school is going to play every team in the conference. Which I think is great as well.”
7/1 model is absolute garbage with 16 teams but until the media deal reflects market value for a 9th game - the fans and tradition are fricked -

The networks, esp ESPN, run CFB. They are the new NCAA/commissioners - however you want to look at it.
I hated losing UF & UT, now losing UGA.
Sucks.

Auburn plays Georgia next year

So, I'm guessing the permanents will be the following?
Alabama-Auburn
Georgia-Florida
Texas-Oklahoma
Mississippi State-Ole Miss
Tennessee-Vanderbilt
Arkansas-Missouri
Texas A&M-LSU
South Carolina-Kentucky

Cut in half, not tabled. But disgusting for sure. That is why I hope they go to 3-6 schedule (9 games) and Auburn keeps both Bama and UGA.

If it's not played yearly, it's tabled.
Since it began in 1892 the only years it hasn't been played were a few in the 1800s when it was new, 2 years during WW1, and 1 year during WWII.
So yeah, not being played annually is the same as being tabled.

Agree with most of what you said, however, I could never see Bama play Miss St again and I don’t think I’d care

Wait, wut? There is no way we agree to let the Georgia game go.
