So just like Arkansas. No coach worth a damn is going to sabotage his career by coming to Arkansas. We’ve got dumb and emotional fans that want their pound of flesh every time they get their feelings hurt.
Welcome to the SEC, bruh. There are plenty of coaches that have the self-confidence to take a high-major job because they don't expect to lose.
And the $5+ million a year helps too.

Nope we are terrible, no one likes us, everybody hates us.

Nope, no one wants generational life changing money, they’d rather wait for Alabama to come open after Saban leaves.

Yes I’m not convinced that Arkansas will ever be fixed where we are competitive where we should be. At least not anytime soon. It’s baseball and basketball for the foreseeable future. Sad but true.

agreed... I mean, really folks.
When have we ever hired an incredible coach in the SEC other than Bobby Petrino? And how he acidentally fell into our laps. I know the story from a personal level. Had a call concerning his possible hiring several days prior to it actually coming to fruition. Many hoops to jump through and he was begging for the job. Yes, BEGGING!
so... other than him, HDN, SMILE, Crowe, Ford, Bert, Chard, and Sam.... those are our SEC coaches. They just don't jump out at ya, causing you to think... "Yeah buddy, we are gonna be among the top 3-4 in the SEC every year". This isn't basketball/baseball friends.
This is a mediocre program, with mediocre financial support/backing from industries, boosters, with mediocre results, with a mediocre NIL,... and Mediocre coaching.
for years we have begged for changes, and for years this is what we have gotten. We are not Auburn, or TAMU anymore. We are much closer to Vandy than the above. Our history, record, and hires point to exactly what we are.
I am not saying we can't do much better... But if our history is any kind of indication of future results... Whelp!!!

THAT is the crux of the problem.
Acting like entitled fans are what keep coaches from wanting to come here is silly. If that were the case, Tennessee would have never been able to hire another P5 coach again after the Schiano debacle. That dwarfs anything our collective fanbase has ever done.

Yes there are plenty that would take it. They just aren’t the ones at equal or better programs that our fans tend to lock in on first as sure fire interest guys.

This I agree with. That being said, the last "lateral" move to Arkansas was Bert. And we all know how that turned out.
I'm totally fine with an up and comer…unfortunately, history tells us that "up and comer" is probably going to mean "7-5 coach that's never beaten a Power 5 team but caters to the good ole boys".

I was more referring to Chad's incredible, career-best 7-5 season at SMU that landed him an SEC coaching gig.

Hate to break this to ya... we aren't Tennessee either. Between our recruiting/nil/history... Nope.
What Chesh say's hits it perfectly as well. Also, we as fans do not have the patience to wait out another HDN after experiencing a BP.

and what history are you looking at? Chads? Berts? JLS? Pitt?
With the current SEC... we are not a 7/5 team. 16 7 or above win seasons in 32 years... 1/2 of the time we are a 7-5 team or above man. lol... the rest we are less than

Yeah, it was poorly phrased. My point was that other SEC schools generally go after up and comers that have actually accomplished something at their schools and are hot names nationally. They're willing to break out the pocketbook and swing for the fences in a competitive marketplace.
Our attempt at an up and comer was a dude barely breaking .500 at SMU.
We aren't willing to take a home run swing. And nothing is going to change until that happens, save us falling arse backwards into another BP.

Look, I am getting very tired of what we are... But I have accepted what we have been.
If it were up to the fans to have a truly competitive football team, it would be done. We are being ignored by the PTB, BOT over and over again. Fed full of misinformation, false advertising, and are gullible enought to fall for it.
It doesn't bother me as much as it used too however. For me it has become a business transaction for our company. Nothing much more... Ok, a bit more.. or I wouldn't be complaining on a message board.

It's the leadership as it always has been. They wasted all that money on the north EZ which would've been better served to be spent on a coaching hire.
I know what the program was and is. I totally enjoyed the Petrino years and loathed Nutts ego.
I feel what point you're making but, try to explain that to the under 40 fans that talk shite to coaches and players on the Twatterz.
Good luck

We really shouldn't have to after seeing so many other programs make quick turnarounds, but half our fans don't have the lifespan to plan for another decade of mediocrity at best, national embarrassment and record-breaking failure at worst.

It's weird to me that the approach to football management is so radically different from basketball. We did exactly the right thing with Eric Musselman. The logical hiring of a man up-and-coming in college basketball - with NBA HC experience to boot - to the tune of no drama or complications. I guess we'll see how we do with baseball in a few years.

What concerns me rather than football is who and how much can we pay a successor to DVH.
We absolutely can't drop the ball with that hire.
