Personally, I like LSUs scene the best. Yeah, you have some drunk morons, but we all have those. The food is top notch at LSU, and everyone wants you to eat their cooking. As someone who has never been a big drinker, tailgates like that, where you eat good food and actually interact with people, are more my speed.

Co-sign. My last trip to BR in 2018 was a blast, even with me and my girlfriend wearing Bama gear. We got some razzing and watched a stuffed Bama elephant hung in effigy and beaten with a broom stick. Otherwise a great time, great food and drink with some good baws. Touchdown Village is awesome.

Winning 29-0 helped.

Holy shite

This
This, a thousand times.

I will be using this wonderful expression in my own life, and kudos to you, sir or ma'am, for having the spine to acknowledge your culpability.

Enjoy your day.

Any school could replicate it if fans purposely decided to tailgate tent to tent and impose arbitrary rules (no flames, no music, no generators, no beer cans, etc)

To me the significance of the Grove experience is that the Grove and the circle are the big enough to achieve a critical mass of tailgating in a spot that is really beautiful and also large enough to accommodate such a thing. throw in the fact that the walk of champions thing that goes right through there... and the fact that it is located close to the stadium. You have a pretty good situation.

As others have said, the quad, drill field and other places have things similar, but the Grove seems to be tailor made for what it has become.

I don't see many threads started by OM fans saying it's the 9th wonder. Just a lot of threads by other fanbases whining about it.

I don't disagree. The Grove is really only fun if you have a tent to go to or can talk your way into one. Some miserable people expect to just show up and have the fun happen to them.

Home tailgating will always be more fun than any away tailgating.

correct. Fans from all over come to town and have a blast. I remember the first time Mizzou came to town as an SEC school, UPD dumped out their entire cooler worth of beer because they didn't know about the cup situation. A number of people from surrounding tents helped refill their cooler and gave them all cups. One guy even made a run and brought back a couple cases of what they were drinking. The cup thing is dumb as hell but....as was stated earlier....so is bitching about it.

Show up. Be respectful. And people will GLADLY invite you into their tent. And if you want to come and tailgate, set up outside of the Circle and Grove. The open flame and cup rules don't apply. And I'm talking literally across the street.

If you don’t know someone who has a tent and have shitty social skills you’re going to hate the grove.

This could be the issue as the majority of LSU fans have a touch of the 'tism.

Here are a list of actual answers to what I asked:

quote:

You can have fun if you want to, and depending on your goals/definition of fun. It's like a big frat party. Cheap food, lots of booze/drunks.

quote:

They put a lot of work into it, as it is very important to them.

It's the biggest social event in Mississippi, apparently.

Ultimately you're still just standing around outside drinking on a college campus.

From a national perspective, The Grove gets more hype than it probably should. Unquestionably, it means a lot to Oxford and Ole Miss fans. It is their "thing."

quote:

Pretty damned stupid to talk shite about tailgating at Ole Miss but refuse to acknowledge the entirety of the tailgating experience

Since I have to repeat to you like an adult to a child, my question was pertaining to strictly The Grove itself. Nothing with the tailgating experience overall of an Ole Miss gameday. I would love to experience every SEC gameday outside of LSU at some point. I don't expect to be blown away. I was curious what made it so special from a national point of view. If you talk college tailgating experiences, you cannot forget to mention LSU & Ole Miss, but I simply do not see how The Grove falls into the same breadth of LSU tailgating experiences.

It's wild how gaslit you've become, when anyone can walk up to any Aggie, tell them they're in a cult, and they'll say "yeah it really is a cult." Grow up.

I've been over this part already.

"You can't do the things that I want to do in the Grove."

"Walk across the street. You can do all of those things."

"DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO YOU'RE NOT MY FATHER!!!!!"

Honestly one can pick out what is not ideal about every schools tailgating. I have been to just about every school minus Vandy, Mizzu and UK. I had fun at all of them, but I could write a list of shite that could be pointed out.

And as its been stated, it is the other fan bases that bring up the Grove.

So if you do go, keep walking, don't stand in the walk ways looking like you are lost, it just clogs up everything. If you want to feel more at home, go to the Wal Mart, there are usually some RV;s set up there for the LSU game.

Here is a question I need to be explained.

Why do LSU fans smell like a circus, like a mix of funnel cakes and corndogs?

It's just a tailgate. The main advantages they have going for it when compared to LSU: 1) Ole Miss fans are more fun / better to deal with / not as sensitive as LSU fans. (You are a good example of a sensitive LSU fan). 2) On average, people in Oxford are more attractive than people in Baton Rouge. 3) You don't have to be in Baton Rouge (dump).

It’s important to hang out in town for a few days first. That sets the stage.

Kind of like that Eddie Murphy bit.,, starving man getting a cracker. Is that a Ritz?

Arky is fun, but not a big scene at all. More like a bunch of church picnics with beer. Good no-nonsense tailgate scene.

Throw in some bourbon, a flat screen, and people who can hold their liquor and wth else would anyone need?

The grove is for Ole Miss fans. We literally do no give a frick what carnies think. Sports Illustrated and ESPN made it world famous. Having drinks with friends and family under towering oak trees in the middle of an old south campus with thousands of other Ole Miss fans and thousands of beautiful women is a good time for Ole Miss fans.

Sorry it doesn’t cater to violently drunk carnival workers. Muh open flames muh keg stands. Get the frick out. No one wants you in the grove anyway.

This. LSU tailgating is unsurpassed. Good people, good food and good times even as a visiting fan.

I’ve been to most of the SEC campuses on game day and the grove is cool, but there’s nothing about it that makes it superior to the other good tailgates. Personally I think LSU and A&M are at least tied with the grove.
