They were hoping to get a conference win this year, before Texas joined, but that ship looks like it's sailed.

Of course not, what does it is A&M went 5-7 last year in year 5 of Jimbo. In year 6, they've already lost to Miami to a coach who's on in his second year. One team is playing much better in year 3 of their coach and just so happened to beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa, while the other team looks worse in year 6 of their coach and just lost to Miami in a half empty stadium. (Btw, Bama may certainly be down, but they were still 51-1 at home and are still a bit tougher than Miami in Miami).
TLDR (As reading is hard): If A&M can't do it when they had a significant advantage, then they aren't going to do it when they no longer have that advantage. Simple, right?
