It is a decision making issue over skill. Thorne did it well on the TD to Fair. The throws both QB were trying to make were a much more difficult throw than if they just aired it out to the endzone.
Robby's two towards the end of the game to Burton were prime examples (just using these as they still are sticking out to me specifically). One of the Burton probably should have caught but it was a very difficult catch. There was nobody over the top, Burton had at least a half step on the DB already, with 25+ yards of grass to run on, yet the balls were thrown for him to have to make a jump catch over the defender/somewhat back shoulder. Thorne had a couple like this as well, I just can't remember who they were to anymore.
