I have had the opportunity to watch Auburn practice over the Pearl years.

I have seen only a handful of guys with a consistently great 3 point stroke.

Mustapha Heron
Bryce Brown
Jabari Smith Jr
Denver Jones

Denver is much better than advertised guys.

He will finally be the guy to knock down the open shots consistently. Auburn will not have any of those 4-28 3 point shooting nights this year.

I mean, Mustapha was a 38% 3 point shooter for his career, so he's not wrong. But he sucked so much shooting 3s his last year at Auburn that I remember him as a poor three point guy too.

My list includes the guys who have great consistent form on their shot.

We have all seen guys with poor form make them like Anfernee McLemore. Awful looking but effective.

However, watching these 4 guys shoot, you expect the ball to go in the hoop every time.

I have not seen Denver in real time game situations - so I am not comparing him to the others yet.

Just his (in practice) footwork, catch, and release speed. It’s the same over and over.

Bruce had some sort of press event today.

Some quotes:

"I like the chemistry. I like the culture. I like the work ethic. I really like our guys."

"K.D. had the best spring and summer that he's had since he's been here."

Per Richard Silva, Bruce Pearl says UAH transfer Chaney Johnson is pushing Jaylin Williams at PF.

"Chaney is one of the best athletes on our team. ... He's going to have a breakout season."

"The schedule is unbelievable. Thanks again to Mike Burgomaster for putting the schedule from hell together. We could end up playing two preseason top-10 teams in USC and Indiana."

"I was disappointed that we had some guys transfer last year... I didn't want to lose a single one of them. But, I think in many ways, we've gotten better."

"This is the hardest-working group I've had, ever, and this is my 10th season here."

"Denver Jones could be one of our top two or three scorers, no question. A great shooter with great range, an ability to get downhill and get through contact, get to the foul line."

"(Aden Holloway) is in a total competition with Tre Donaldson... There were times where we were better with Tre on the floor because of the way he led, the way he distributed and the way he made shots."

"(Aden) He's a combination of a lot of the guards we've had in the past. He probably shoots it as well or better than any of them. He's got another gear. He's farther ahead, physically, than our other freshman guards that we've had."

He also added that Chris Moore missed the whole summer after shoulder surgery.

Can you post the quote about him talking about scholarship numbers?

I'd like to hear what he says as well.

Also, Bruce never disappoints with the comments:
Pearl said the 3-guard was the "toughest position" as far as finding the right fit and the right prospect. Auburn landed Chad Baker-Mazara, who Pearl says, "Chad's really good." Pearl mentions CBM being 6'7, but "light in the arse."

Have 12 players on scholarship. May keep one open through mid-semester. If they don't add a transfer, the may give it to one of the walk-ons.

Bruce only really goes out of his way to draw attention to the team when he knows they’re good. If Bruce can get them at least solid on defense, this team could be a really fun one.

Yeah I think there will be some growing pains with this bunch but I really do think the sky is the limit. The pieces are there. Nothing is guaranteed but anything is on the table.

So 2 walk ons getting scholarships since Lior is a walk on too. I don't understand the logic of choosing to be down a man. Even if its just a guy who will be a good practice player and help the team get better, why would you not get the best/deepest roster that you can?

Bottom of the roster you are really just looking for cultural fit or a project. And projects are becoming fewer in the age of the portal so you really just want dudes who are gonna make your practices more intense and locker room better. Legitimate guys don't want to come play behind anyone else these days.

I'm sure if BP thought he could find a real depth piece that could make the team better he would have. He tried adding backup 5 to supplant Cardwell with Middlebrooks and that USF guy and they went elsewhere. And I bet if he had landed one of those two, Cardwell would have bolted.

Show me another team in the SEC that will have 2 walk ons on scholarship though. I'm not saying we would find great players, but 2 walks ons on scholarship is putting yourself at a disadvantage.

I hear you but also show me a walk on at another team in the SEC that’s as good as Lior. He’s fully earned his scholly. I’m more comfortable with Lior out there than someone like Moore.

Another thing to consider with the walk-ons is that you can give it to a guy that’s a senior which frees the scholarship back up the following year, as opposed to taking a chance on a guy and them occupying a scholarship for multiple years.

Lior ain't good. He trips over his own feet any time he tries to defend. He cant dribble. He's a decent shooter. He's a walk on level talent through and through.

Grad transfers and senior transfers exist. We would take a chance on a HS kid and if it doesn't work transfer them out the next year. There's no rule that says we would have to keep someone for multiple years.

I'm not a huge Lior guy but he was visibly better than a couple scholarship guys on our team last year. That alone tells you he isn't a "walk on through and through"

Disagree with most of your points but that’s all good.

Good luck getting anyone remotely decent to be your 12th man.

So you’d rather have a Traore or Stretch than a Lior?

It is telling how far Bruce has brought us when the current massive argument across multiple fan boards is how Bruce uses his 12th scholarship
