Two hour drive to a type of civilization, lake or beach. In AUs case you have Atlanta, Birmingham, Lake Martin and a little longer drive to the Gulf coast.

What would other schools show?
Remember, location, location, location.

For recruiting, yes. Definitely could be a helluva lot worse.

Close drive home for a lot of prospects.

Auburn, AL to Atlanta - 1 hour 51 minutes
Auburn, AL to Birmingham - 2 hours 16 minutes
Auburn, AL to Lake Martin - 55 minutes

So yeah, it takes about 2 hours to get to any type of civilization from Auburn.

Let's check in with Oxford....
Oxford, MS to Memphis - 1 hour 20 minutes
Oxford, MS to Sardis Lake - 20 minutes

Sardis Lake is a 98,520-acre reservoir.
Lake Martin is a 39,000-acre reservoir.

Congrats on having one additional ghetto of a city that is still further away than what's in Oxford. Also, congrats on such a small lake?

I'm not going to get in a pissing contest over which is better between Mississippi and Alabama. Seems a trophy not really worth earning in the grand scheme of things.

But I will ask if you actually believe coaches care that much about where they are beyond possibly proximity to recruits? Do you actually believe that many of the premiere programs are so because of the location, place like Columbus, Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, or Norman?

These guys aren't worried about how long a drive it will be in a loaded up minivan when they want to get out of town with the family. Coaches at these schools are multimillionaires with connections to donors who will fly them wherever whenever just to go brag to the other boss hog alumni that they got to fly coach on their jet.

These guys would probably coach in the Seventh Circle of Hell if they thought Hell had the resources to build a championship program and pay them handsomely for being the head of it.
