What Deion Sanders has done at a HBCU should not garner consideration for a job like Auburn. I’m sorry but sometimes I have to wonder what some of you do for a living. An analogy if you will. Auburn is like a Fortune 500 in college football. Jackson St is like a small town country store. Not even a Dollar General. How many Fortune 500s hire a CEO from that many levels below them?

None of that matters. I could give you name after name that looked good on paper, some with Natty’s even, that are either busts or unemployed.

This business is not like other businesses. Just like big tech is not like most other businesses but there are a lot of super smart tech geeks out in Silicon Valley that would rather hire with little to no experience rather than a PhD that thinks he knows every damn thing.

Thats a terrible way to look at it. Talent can be found at any level of competition. Just take a look at the NFL draft

Here's the angle that you're missing:

Deion Sanders isn't just some random coach who happens to coach at a HBCU. He is one of the most recognizable figures/brands/personalities in all of football. He has held this status for 30+ years now, going back into the 1990's.

What this means is that unlike your "small town country store" example, he himself is in fact a highly respected celebrity within this industry. This means that he can hire and surround himself with elite and accomplished position coaches and coordinators (who do most of the actual coaching, by the way) - especially at a school like Auburn which has the pockets to pay top dollar.

You see in your example, the "small town country store" doesn't have resources or capital or connections within the industry, which is what differentiates them from Wal-Mart. Deion Sanders does.

You're looking at this from the perspective as if he's just "Joe Schmoe" the head football coach from Jackson State, but you're missing the big picture in that he's a complete anomaly. Anomaly's can defy the common logic or expectations. If you look at his just his recruiting: there is absolutely zero reason why any elite football recruit would be interested in even thinking about a HC from Jackson State. But alas the 2023 recruits can't stop talking about him, they even bring up his name without even being prompted. Why? BECAUSE HE'S AN ANOMALY. HE'S NOT THE SMALL TOWN COUNTRY STORE.

Some of you have no imagination or vision. He is absolutely a risk (there are very few who aren't btw), but you need to see the big picture and understand that he defies common laws because his toolset is SO unique. This man has barely coached at all and I can guarantee you that Nick Saban would be AFRAID to be recruiting against him. Again, he defies what you normally know or expect about a football coach.
