In a perfect world, Greene would have liked to remain at Auburn. He sought clarity for months on his situation. When that clarity didn’t come and it became obvious Roberts wasn’t going to renew his contract, Greene made his intentions known.

This isn’t surprising given Greene interviewed at numerous other universities over the last year for AD positions. Greene saw the writing on the wall, and the plan was always for Greene and Auburn to part amicably.

Today, President Roberts named Auburn Athletics Chief Operating Officer Marcy Girton as Acting Athletics Director. University leadership will convene to appoint an Interim Director of Athletics who will serve while a national search begins for Greene’s permanent replacement.
