My opinion of him is that he is a very good coach, a great recruiter, and a shitty motivator.

This team plays exactly to the level of their competition. If we go to the tourney with an 8 seed or better we will struggle. 10th seed and we will win the whole damn thing.

We lost to Georgia, Memphis, and Missouri because their record sucked and the team didn't care. The team was pumped to play Gonzaga and Baylor and we won. We will beat Auburn, but i bet we lose to some other crap team.

I can understand the "shitty motivator" narrative for this season, but it's hard to tell if it's this staff or set of players. If we looked at just last year's team, you'd think he was one of the greatest motivators of all time with how consistently elite we seemed to be from SEC play and on. Is that the truth? Probably not. As with most inconsistencies, the truth probably lands somewhere between the variants.

If he is the motivator you claim then the team wouldn't have been ready to play anybody.

I think he's a damn good coach. There's no one in the league I would rather have, other than Pearl. Oats did an outstanding job last year.

That having been said, ultimately this team's inconsistent play is on him. We have proven that on any given Saturday we can beat any team in the country. Whether it's lack of motivation when playing lesser teams, inconsistent effort, or whatever, that's on Oats to fgure out and fix. Great coaches do that.
