Florida basketball is off to its worst SEC start in 40 years, and people are saying Mike White is out of his league.

He is, though probably not in the way critics have in mind. For all his real and perceived shortcomings as a coach, I’m pretty sure of one thing.

White has always run a clean program at Florida.

I’m also pretty sure Will Wade has not at LSU. And Bruce Pearl has not at Auburn.

The NCAA is also pretty sure. And if the sport’s governing body weren’t such a sclerotic mess, Wade and Pearl would currently be breaking rocks at the coaches’ version of Alcatraz.

Running a clean program in basketball is pretty much asking to die a slow death.

Mens Basketball makes all other collegiate sports seem spotless. You literally can not compete in Mens Basketball at any quality championship level if you aren't, at the very minimum, a decent coach that is doing an average amount of grey / shady recruiting tactics.

If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying.

He is also by most accounts an extremely boring guy. Most of the better basketball coaches in the NCAA right now have personalities.

Seems like an odd year to complain about cheating considering paying players is legal now.
