I just hang my head when Cambridge goes up to shoot.

We needed the bucket but after he made that one I thought “crap, now he’s definitely going to keep shooting.”

I just hate that guys like Jabari are passing up okay looks to get Devan a good look.

Didn’t Cambridge have like an insane game shooting like his freshman year where he hit like 8 threes? Or was that someone else

Cambridge is the definition of streaky shooter. We've all seen him go unconscious. However, this year in limited minutes he's is struggling to find the streaks. The other things he does IMO warrant dealing with the occasional bad 3, but honestly he is usually open and just doesn't hit them so they aren't bad 3's so much as he isn't hitting a shot he is capable of hitting.

I'd rather have Cambridge missing an open 3 in a spectacularly ugly fashion than the terrible 3's are guards sometimes fall into shooting.

Side note:

In the excitement of winning a regular season title I haven't seen much discussion on the fact that we for the 3rd time in a last shot situation didn't get a shot off or a absolutely terrible shot. I'm not sure I've ever seen a good team with a couple of great "get your own shot" guys struggle so badly to produce a good look.

He’s a career 29% shooter from 3 as a catch and shoot guy. To say he’s a “capable” shooter is a stretch

I was referencing his ability to be streaky...capable of a streak.

It's a fine line to balance making sure you get the last shot while also getting a good look. We are clearly prioritizing making sure it's the last shot but even still the shots/possessions have been really terrible.

Worth noting Cambridge got a lot more run against the cupcake portion of the early schedule… flanigan has been since Murray St on, so a little stiffer competition.

In SEC play this year

Cambridge - 15% from 3
Flannigan - 22% from 3

The two guys we really needed to step up

Also stolen from rivals board:

On a per minute basis, Flanigan has:

The highest TO rate on the team (only Wendell is remotely close)
The lowest 3P% on the team
Fewer points than Cardwell, our backup C
Fewer rebounds than Wendell, the smallest guy on the team
Fewer assists than Jaylin, a backup post guy
Fewer steals than Lior, a former walk-on
Fewer blocks than Zep our 6 foot PG and *less than half the blocks of Lior*
7th in FT%, only better than our 2 Centers

Yep, he's a total disaster. I hate it for him because it isn't a lack of effort and he seems like a decent enough guy.

I realized he was cleared to play but you have to wonder if some of it is mental and related to the nature of that injury.

Coach Pearl is great at getting a look from a baseline out of bounds set.

I know we have FLEX actions, pick and roll, pick and pop, but our offense at times looks sort of disorganized.

I see us ISO to Jabari at times which is fine, but Do we do any running of Jabari off screens? Elevators?
Gates? I don’t recall any of those type actions where Jabari would run off multiple screens to get an open look.
Maybe we have done it, but I don’t see it.

The number one problem I see is us not ever having a "shot clock is off" play that isn't a 3 pointer.

Can’t figure out why one of the coaches hasn’t stopped down to worked on Cambridge’s form in the off seasons any more than they have. He’s clearly a phenomenal athlete. Seems like he’d want to fundamentally correct his mechanics. He certainly doesn’t have anything to lose. His shooting form from 3 is horrific.

I think we can retire this myth. He had a couple of good shooting games his freshman year which gave him the "streaky" label ever since. Truth is he's a bad shooter with an UGLY shot. He also just so happens to be probably the most athletic guy on the team.

IMO we have to start running more. Our half court O has struggled all year.. when we run we can take advantage of our depth and athleticism.

I agree with that. When we run we suddenly have depth again .

Cambridge is Dennis Rodman on the boards. For the life of me I don't know why AU is not playing him more at the 3 and have him crashing to boards. He has a knack for it. He's really productive when he's inside. And we lack rebounding.
