I hope nobody saw it happen but I'm sure there was at least one witness. Too much traffic down old row and that area of magnolia to not have seen it.

The guy living at the Sigma Chi house said he wasn't out front when it happened but he heard it. Tough situation for all involved.

This is just really really sad. I can never understand what drives some people with seemingly everything to live for to do this. It can never be proven, but I wonder how much the similar events at Penn had an impact on him doing this? Both cases are equally tragic

There are some people who seem to have everything going for them, but underneath that layer lies a person who can be mentally incapacitated where things can go horribly bad in a short time frame.

The reason it doesn't make sense to most people is because to those people the only refuge they feel can alleviate their problems is permanent escape from the life that causes extreme turmoil. They are not in a sensible state of mind and doing nonsensical things.

They may have gone through prior episodes of despair and finally have had enough and choose to take their life. The bad part is so many refuse to seek help because there is such a big stigma associated with mental illness and taking medications for it. So many choose to self treat or feel they are misdiagnosed and some can live functionally that way for their entire life, and others will turn to drugs and alcohol, homelessness, in and out of institutions, crime, prisons, or taking their life.

Many brilliant, intelligent, creative, seemingly normal looking people can be afflicted. It is a sad but real truth in life.

I've lost my brother to it. It's a difficult thing to deal with, both for the person with depression and their loved ones.

It's so damn frustrating because you can't grab the problem and "fix" it like removing a tumor. Also, at least in the case of my brother and a few others I have known, they are adept at hiding their demons from the ones around them. Just totally sucks.

You pretty much nailed it. It is so hard to corral the problem and even those who take meds, their body chemicals change through aging that it is a battle for the meds staying effective. Like you said so many refuse to share and it can be a helpless feeling for you and the sufferer. I can promise you they want to share, but they choose not to for many reasons.

Again, I am sorry for your loss and know your pain.

Backstory?

Happened last week at Penn. A girl on the track team killed herself by jumping from the top of a parking garage just like this guy.

ETA Both instances are pretty tragic

Since we are sharing, You guys have nailed it.

In my case it was a brought on from PTSD from abuse (neighbor) that occurred from age 6-9. we are talking the 1970's and nobody discussed these things. So i just stuffed it with painkillers until that almost killed me. finally at age 34 I was able to get the words out. Nobody had a clue...

Sorry if this is TMI for anyone but if someone gets anything from it and is able to get help then it has served a purpose.

Wow, she was so beautiful. What makes it harder for especially attractive individuals, most people around them can't fathom why they're unhappy. It's terrible to reach out only to have someone tell you they wish they were you, and that you have no reason to be unhappy.
