UGA is abnormal. Chances are our best path going forward to challenge for titles will be to consistently produce 9+ win seasons. I just don't think the up and down thing is that sustainable.

I remember during Tubbs years when we would celebrate West co-champs thinking I wish we would get over the hump of 8, 9 or 10 win seasons. Then when USC was crowned champion in 2004 when I believed we were a better team I began to wonder would I trade the 9 win years for a title. As the NCAA stripped USCw of their title I remember thinking I would absolutely trade all the 9 win seasons (10 wins under the new scheduling) for a title. I hate the inconsistency but there is zero chance I give back 2010 or 2013 for what uga experiences each year. Zero!

And I call BS on AU not having the resources or tools to compete for titles every year. Our athletic program makes a shite ton of money. We usually spend just as much as we make too.

We waste a TON of money.

A place like Auburn could never sustain 9-10 win seasons with no championships. We aren't a flagship "in state" school, we'd go the way of South Carolina where the talent starts to dry up.

ETA* Championships are what keep Auburn relevant. Without them, we'd turn into Wazzou

I would be happy with 9-10 win seasons year after year. Speaking of UGA, I would love to have Mark Richt at Auburn and have that kind of season on a yearly basis.

Won't disagree with that. Just saying though that I find the excuse that we don't have the resources weak. I do agree though that not being a flagship state school hurts but I think we have shown that we can overcome that & be successful

I find this hard to believe. Would you trade uga's 2008-2015 for Auburn's 2008-2015?

While the last years have been rough, especially on internet forums, I wouldn't trade it. The only other SEC school I would trade the last 8 years with would be Alabama.

- Yes, it sucks having pitiful years and makes football season suck
- 2005 and 2006 are good examples of what UGA consistently does. Good wins that season, but it was a hell of a lot more frustrating to be close and not be able to close the deal.
- UGA and LSU fans have basically lived that for the last 8 years and have not gotten to experience the pure joy of our 2010 and 2013 seasons.

With that said, we got to get shite fixed because at some point we are not going to be able to catch lighting in a bottle and will just be a consistently shitty as program.

I mean it sucks now but saban won't be at bama forever and between he and bryant we were a better program than alabama for nearly 30 years. It's not like we haven't proven repeatedly we can compete at the highest level.

1983
1988
1993
2004
2010
2013

Every one of those seasons we were either undefeated, national champions, or literally a play away from being national champions. The fact we didn't win it in 83 is a complete joke and 04 was easily one of the top 5 SEC teams in since at least the 80s. Three perfect seasons in the last 25 years is matched only by Nebraska.

Can I just vote for an avg. of 10 win seasons with some NC here and there? If you are going to dream, dream big right??

True. It's also not like we have proven that we can sustain that ability to compete.

AU's football history is largely one of mediocrity, punctuated with brief periods of excellence (sometimes as brief as a single season), and even more rarely, similarly brief periods of ineptitude.

In fact, the closest we have ever come to any sustained success is 1982-1990, when we were the 3rd winningest major college program behind only Miami and Nebraska. And even during that stretch we had a couple of disappointing seasons in '84-85.

2015 marks the 12th time in the last 25 seasons we've lost 5 or more games. That is not what I would consider elite.

Yes I agree we are not even going to run off a ten year dynasty with like 5 conference titles and 3-4 national titles but history has shown we can compete in the SEC for multiple years in a row with a shot at winning it all every few years.

What we did from 82-94 and even 02-10 is compete in the conference almost every season with with a couple of exceptions and win 2-3 conference titles and a couple of real runs at national titles. That's a realistic goal for this program over the course of a decade.

Even in the years between 95-01 we had a winning record most years and won the West twice and should have won the SEC in 97 if we had not dropped like 10 passes and false started 10 times in the title game.

I'll take the rollercoaster if we win titles on the up years. I would rather have that than a Richt style 9-3 every year with no hardware to show for it.

Of course, the gold standard is being 9-3 in the down years and winning titles in the others (but that takes bammer's proce$$ to pull off).
