I was in Auburn this past weekend and was having a discussion with a Georgia friend. He claimed he'd rather have our roller coaster/circus/deplorable seasons with a chance for championships over the steady 9/10 consistency of Richt. I'm torn over the issue.

Upvote if you prefer to have our stellar seasons mixed with going 0-8 in conference

Downvote if you prefer a solid good consistency that UGA has enjoyed over the past 15 years, but no title.

Right now I want consistency(won a title in 2010 and also two SEC titles). I hate going through ups and downs this often.

Tired of losing to GA, LSU, ALA. And the Miss retard twins.

I mean if by consistency you mean not winning an SEC title in over a decade or National Title in 35 years I'd take the roller coaster.

I mean, if I knew with some certainty that for every two years of suckage and mediocrity we'd win the SEC and play for a natty, I'd likely keep doing that.

But this program needs a UGA 2000s run of 10 win games, IMO. We need to get back to even with our rivals, and we desperately need to put a number on both UGA and Bama in the coming years.

With more of this shite, we risk losing the program positioning and benefit of the doubt received as a result of 2010 and 2013. Plus, while I'm not happy with Gus at all, I would really like him to turn it around. We need coaching stability.

It depends how high the highs are of the roller coaster. If they consist of NC's, then I would rather have the roller coaster.

This is a topic that is brought up frequently these days, especially as Richt's time at UGA dwindles.

I don't think these two patterns are the only options though. I'd love to see our team get 7-8 wins minimum, and then make a NC push every few years.

The roller coaster pattern isn't sustainable, and hasn't really happened before except 2013.

Said over in the other thread, I'm firmly in the consistency camp.

It's become apparent that AU isn't ever going be an elite program. There's only a small handful of schools that have the resources to compete year-in and year-out for national championships. It's our extreme misfortune to share a state with one of them.

It's funny because I firmly believe this answer changes depending upon when you ask it. If you ask this in 2013 you'll hear the opposite answer of what everyone is now stating

I'll take the rollercoaster. We've got something very few teams in the conference do.

To some extent, but I remember telling people post 2010 and 2013 that what we needed most now was to keep winning at a high clip regardless of titles. I like Auburn as a top program on the verge of that elite status, basically alongside LSU and UGA.

Of course we'll always have to do a little more with a little less than those schools, but the distinction is that they win at a higher rate than we do, and I'd like to see that slide stopped. I honestly can't even remember what it was like to have a pretty good year and go to the Cotton or Citrus. I remember I liked it well enough, though.

If you could have only one or the other then I'd happily take Auburn roller coaster vs UGA consistency.

I'll take Alabama consistency over Auburn roller coaster.

At the end of the day, football is about entertainment. This year, the entertainment ended with the JSU game. It's hard for me to watch us struggle and not be competitive.

What's consistency without the hardware? (See UGA)

Yeah its nice to say you have a 9-10 win season but what's even better is when you were a complete dumpster fire full of used indian food the year before then wreck house in the SEC. I like it. Its tough, but I like it.

I think we have been competitive with the close score games we just haven't won that often. Other than the LSU assbeating we've been in all the other games.

Only thing uga's consistency has gotten them is a decade's worth of a divided fanbase.

Saban is the reason. When Saban is gone, this will change.

^^ THIS ^^

And I call BS on AU not having the resources or tools to compete for titles every year. Our athletic program makes a shite ton of money. We usually spend just as much as we make too. We have been pouring money into our football program with new dorms, that ridiculous new jumbotron, inside practice facility & all other sorts of updates. AU is in a state rich with talent & is positioned an hour or away from the #4 talent rich football state. AU is in perfect position to compete at the highest level & they have for years.

Will we win a championship every season? Of course not. But what's the point of an almost 90,000 seat stadium & coaches being paid 6 figures if all we are going to do is accept 9/10 wins without any hardware. What's the fun of never winning anything meaningful?

We can't expect this as fans though. It sometimes happens in professional sports (TB Rays and Detroit Tigers I think), but our turnaround from 2012 to 2013 is the first of that caliber that I can remember, and I can just about guarantee it'll be a long time before we see that occur again. Even with a 6 win season currently, there's zero certainty in what next season brings which sucks for fans.

I think if we have disappointing seasons, we can't just keep counting on a major turnaround that'll produce a SECC and maybe a NC...it's just not a sustainable pattern.

ETA: If any AU fans believe the roller coaster mentality will continue to produce SECC's or NC's, I think you're wrong.

That's reasonable, but I'm not sure this is a legitimate question.

In truth, which is more sustainable, a high # of win team on a regular basis breaking through periodically to pursue titles, or the roller coaster we're on?

UGA is abnormal. Chances are our best path going forward to challenge for titles will be to consistently produce 9+ win seasons. I just don't think the up and down thing is that sustainable.

We have some resources but we are definitely never going to be the flagship school.and we have some inherent disadvantages, but have managed to overcome them for the most part.

It is actually pretty damn impressive what Auburn accomplishes and is one of the top 15 schools historically speaking in wins. The record between our biggest rivals being close for the most part to really close.we have a respectable bowl record.

Is this season frustrating and some others over the last 6 seasons or so? Absolutely but we can say we have been champions. Yeah I will take that if hat is the pattern we will get from here on out. The one thing I couldn't handle is being a KY or a Vandy type football program. That would be very no Bueno!

With that said I of course would love to win 9-15 games consistently each year along with the championships, but wouldn't trade 2010 or the 2013 run for 6 - 10 win seasons and no SEC or NC win.
