And if so, will Jay Jacobs agree?

Not saying Gus will be a candidate, but USCe, Miami, and VA Tech are just a few of the name programs that will have job openings this season. Their coach hire will likely have ripple effects that will leave a number of high profile job vacancies and Bah Gawd that's Jimmy Sexton's music

Not only will he get coaches hired he will also likely get raises for a number of coaches out of fear alone. The question is will Auburn be in that number and if so are you in agreement with a raise/extension?

I'm basing my question on year-to-date performance and a season that at best could be 6-6 after having NC hopes destroyed

No, we should not be pressured into that. If some other coach wants to pay more for Gus, they should be more than welcome to do so.

I'm fine with upping his incentives in an effort to keep him but thats about it.

I'm for performance based pay

2 million is base.

250 K for 10-2
500K for SECW
1 million for SEC championship
2 million for nattie

That's it. I've had about all I can take of Auburn and 6-8 win seasons. We need to up our expectations.

Everything else I agree with. Incentives are much better than outright extensions/raises. At least we're getting something in return for the money we put in

Now that is funny. Jay Jacobs is probably stupid enough to do it.

I'd let him walk if someone dangled a contract in front of him that was better than what he's got here

None of those schools are going to pay Malzahn's buyout

Too many schools are already paying top dollar for less than premium coaching. I don't think Gus is a bad coach, but he's certainly not in a tier with Saban and Meyer as far as accomplishments go. I'm not sure he's a Tier 1 coach with those guys based on potential success. He should not be paid like they are. If another school wants to do that though, let them. I'd hate to see Gus leave Auburn, but return on investment is still important.

No.

Sexton's nobody's fool. Unless we have a dramatic and at this point totally implausible turnaround (9-3 at worst) this season will be perceived as an epic failure. Sexton is far too shrewd to try to squeeze blood out of that turnip. Let's be realistic, nobody will be coming after Gustav for any of those openings.

Unless of course AU tries something monumentally stupid, like JetGate, I think there will be no attempts at renegotiation this year.

Knowing Jimmy Jam he most likely will try. He is all about the money anyway that's his job. Does Gus deserve a pay increase, no and for what? He has done nothing this year on the field and with all the off field issues there is nothing to warrant a raise period. I will agree with another post I would agree to raise his incentive package but not his base salary. With the debacle this year I would be curious to see how many calls he gets about job openings any way

Let's hope this is true. The last thing we need after a dismal season is to head into 2016 with Gus pissy about a contract dispute

If JJ gives him a $1 raise, it should be grounds to fire JJ.

Gus already is paid more than all those schools current coaches. Outside the SEC and the biggest programs, coaches aren't paid that much. No school is going to justify a 4mil+ contract to a coach that is coming off a losing season
