Me too. I remember going to Kroger and nobody was buying food but all the damn beer was gone. Some of my friends lost power for over a week.

When you get away from the Coast, there really are only two concerns with Hurricanes. With torrential rain, trees can be uprooted. Tornadoes are the other concern.

I was just a few miles from the Coast when Opal hit. You could ride down hwy 98 and see the Hotels. Then you walked down the beach and the back of the Hotels were gone. That thing did some serious damage right along the Coast.

It's actually smart if you think about it. Why stockpile food when it's going to be thrown all over the place?

If you get picked up and thrown though, your chances of survival are greater if you are drunk

Do you doubt that statement? Drunk drivers thrown from the car are more likely to survive then a sober person thrown from a car. It happens all the time. Sober person dies. Drunk person walks away with barely a scratch.

Strangest thing I ever saw weather wise in Auburn was I believe the summer of 1998, a funnel cloud came through the south side over by the Supper Club. Those brick duplexes that started to be built back in 96-97 back there were still being built and a couple got smashed mid construction.

There was another separate set of duplexes around there and I saw a car flipped over and there had been a man killed there. Evidently he ran out mid storm for something of his flying away and got smashed into the ground. That was my understanding at least. Never saw anything like it.

But I watched the weather a lot in Auburn and I don't know if it's topography or what but a lot of storms ended up down on that south side of college street and the topography does have a good wedge to it there. I think the top of the Hailey Center is the same elevation as the airport. Heck Tuskegee is like 300' above sea level and Auburn makes a quick but subtle rise to 800'.

Or maybe God just had it out for the Supper Club.

The Clemson game will not be affected by the hurricane. In fact, weather forecast shows the perfect temps for football (highs in upper 70s, lows in the 50s, low humidity).

Mercer very well could be affected depending on how much farther west the storm pushes. Models show it going up Florida and into Georgia, which would only bring heavy rains to Auburn. But it keeps moving farther and farther west, and if it goes north into Panama City or Tallahassee as a Cat 5 like some models predict, it's going to bear down on Auburn as a Cat 1 or Cat 2 hurricane. If that happens on Wednesday or Thursday of next week, there could be enough damage to affect the game.

All the toilet paper from Saturday night is going to be yanked off those trees by Monday, should they postpone the rolling?

I have been keeping a close eye on it. Models this morning were showing that as a possibility. Almost every single model now has it going further East. I have never left for a Hurricane. This one I definitely would.

ETA It hit some small Island in the Caribbean tonight, Barbuda, with max sustained winds of 185 MPH.

Charleston Southern and SC State game cancelled. If SC gov declares SOE, and uses interstate as evac routes, the game may get cancelled.

Bumping because interstate lane reversal was a potential condition for cancelling the game. I-26 after Columbia and I-85 would be the real ones to worry about, but this can create traveling issues.

McMaster says I-26 lane reversal will be in affect from Charleston all the way to I-77 starting around 10 a.m. Saturday. #Irma

Wait a minute... you aren't the one who was pissed we were playing Clemson again, were you?

JOKING DAMMIT.

BTW, UF looked into the possibility of playing Northern Colorado at J-H, but decided it would just be too difficult in the arrangements and travel.

Per Florida AD Scott Stricklin, the school contacted Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs about possibly playing the game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. But Stricklin ultimately said that traveling to and from the game would be too difficult.

That is a crappy section of interstate on 26 to 77 but this should not really have much impact on the Clemson area. A little over 100 miles of interstate from Charleston to Columbia is what we are talking about here.
