I was replying to beat Bammer who said Gus was just playing the hot hand. We had two drives that we were stopped on short conversion attempts. If Marshall wasn't out for the entire half why not bring him in after those plays.

Johnson should have been used on the 3rd and short plays that we didnt convert in the first half. Everyone sitting around me was saying the same thing. "Why not run it with Jeremy? He's 6'6" 240."

No, he wasn't "clearly" out for the first half.

Know how I know that?

Because Gus "clearly" said he WASN'T.

I just watched Jeremy's post game interview and FWIW he said there was 2 plays designed for him to run it but he handed it off because the DE was not crashing down. He also said the TD play to Ray was a designed Johnson run but he threw it instead because the CB covering Ray blitzed.

What? Except for being tall, jj is nothing like cam.

The reason he does not run is because he is not effective in doing so. The read option requires an inside and outside option. Jj fires not have the strength of newton to run inside effectively or the speed of Marshall to break it outside.

JJ has the makings of a great qb, but under him the o will look like it did under Todd.

Why don't you put your starting QB in the game when it was 21-21?

I was wondering about that. It looked like the Coates TD in the bama game play.

Because the problem at that time wasn't the offense, it was the defense.

This ain't rocket surgery, brah.

We stalled on three straight drives to end the first half so the problem was also Offense brah!

I think with another year of S&C he'll have more power to run inside. He won't have the speed or acceleration that Marshall has, and not many QB's do, but I think JJ will be plenty affective running the option at times when he's a little bigger. My guess is he's about 230 at most now. He's still pretty thin.

The offense stalled on the way to a missed field goal?

We had drives stall because the OL couldn't block on third and short.

You said the offense stalled. That is one example of the offense not stalling. They put the special teams in position to score points and we missed a field goal.

With only one RB in the backfield and no threat of a QB run makes the Defensive keys pretty easy.

Handcuffed. Gives him less to think about from play to play and let him just be loose and relaxed. I mean Christ the guy was 12 for 16 with 2 TDs and we're wondering why he didn't run the ball? He was 8 for 8 passing to start the game, that's why dammit. If it was working why the hell would we change it? The only thing that was letting us down in the 1st half was our defense.

Also less chance of an injury that would force Marshall in "early".

Not if your OL does their job. Our RB's were getting hit in the backfield on those third and shorts. It was missed assignments, plain and simple.
