I remember a lot of people not wanting Tuberville fired. you also cant deny that these last 2 hires were pretty unproven and the concerns arent totally unfounded. we are trending downward at an alarming rate. just as we were with Chizik. do you think Chizik was going to right the ship or did we do well to fire him when we did?

I didi not want Tubbs fired. I really liked his defensive teams. I was not happy about him getting fired but I have to admit, it worked out.
Did I agree with the Chizik firing. I dont think he deserved to be fired when he did. But I think it was the right move. He was really not given a chance to right the ship. He may not have been able to get things on track but he should have been given one more season. Now I understand it worked out but Im talking about what was fair after the fact.
We are still recruiting very well and there have not really been a lot of problems with the team. Very few players in trouble, we have been for the most part competitive, just not over the hump. Gus has shown what he can do when he gets things going. I think he will eventually get things going and we will compete for a SEC championship very soon.
The issue with most of the guys here is they live in the state of Alabama and most go to or recently went to Auburn. The "Bama" factor there is strong and with the Tide rolling ever season, it tastes bad. Think about the SEC landscape over the past 6 years and how well Auburn has been in it. Now think back 10 years before that and how we were not in it. Gus had a big part in most of our recent success.
Lets let him do his thing and get things going.

what? I'd argue 2004-2006 AU teams were better than any Gus ever fielded anywhere.
I'd argue the opposite. Chizik didnt deserve one season much less one more. should have never been hired. by the time Jacobs figured this out he panicked & hired what he THOUGHT made Chizik successful. he is just now about to figure out how wrong that was too. what if Tubs players had more to do with it than Gus? I think that's a pretty popular point of view these days.

or letting true freshman qbs mitch mustain and matthew stafford embarrass you on your home turf wouldn't be considered a great team

2004 team, sure, you could make that argument but not the other 2.

Tubbs won one SEC Championship in his 10 years at Auburn. Thats it.
Gus had basically won us two SEC Championships, one National Championship and took us to another in 6 years. And he did it when our division was probably at the top of college football and your in state rival was in the midst of one of the best runs in college football history.
I really liked Tubbs but Gus has done more.

This is hilarious. Yes, there were some solid players from Tubs days on the 2010 team, but the talent was severely lacking to make the type of run we did. Name one offensive players besides Cam Newton that was drafted. Ziemba? 2010 was the direct result of Gus' offense and Cam Newton. Period.

Indeed.
1980, Barfield's last team goes 5-6, Barfield gets fired.
1981, Dye gets hired, his first team goes... 5-6.
It was obvious by the overall performance on the field of the 1981 team that Auburn was beginning its trend upward that year.

A panel consisting of Tim Hudson, Bo and some girl will be named
Panel will interview a bunch of solid candidates
Weeks will elapse
We'll promote Kevin Steele
I will go to Steele's house and be caught on camera screaming "we want a winner not a loser."

I believe you don't have to necessarily win games to be trending upward, especially when dealing with out performance last year. Against LSU, UGA, and Bama we were clearly outmatched. If we were able to actually be competitive in those games, and not get curb-stomped, I would think the program is "trending upward". Would you not agree?
I would agree, and I think that's all us reasonable fans have been asking for is to be competitive and not a 16 point underdog against the other big 3. The
The problem is the rest of the general public isn't going to accept 7 win seasons no matter how well we look on the way to those 7 wins.
If we do that we become Mississippi State where 8 win seasons are celebrated.
