The fans have been patient with him. The nature of the Auburn job is to win rivalry games or get fired. He doesn’t have the temperament to be a head coach in the SEC, IMO.

I don’t care about beating up on Ole Miss or Arkansas. We have the resources (and recruiting) to consistently compete in the SEC.

I want him fired yesterday but he will still get a lower level P5 job.

Think teams like Iowa State. Duke.

Conference record of SEC opponents Auburn has beaten: 3-13

Conference record of SEC opponents left on Auburn's schedule: 12-1

South Alabama would be a great fit for him I think, and he’s shown he can win in that league. Joey Jones’ contract is up after this year, so I don’t think they’d have to even fire him.

I agree. He would do well at South. Would be great for fan support as well.

I think we're being a tad bit too pessimistic. Gus shite the bed at LSU, that is 100% factual. But against Arky, the staff seemed to correct those mistakes: changing up 1st down calls, keeping their foot on the gas, some intermediate passing, some different looks/designed QB draws. Pettway looked healthy.

Will any of that last? It will have to. 3 out of the next 4 are going to be dogfights, so they'll be forced to. We'll see if he can keep the team motivated. I have my doubts, but it's possible. The benefit AU has on their side, they've played an elite defensive line. UGA/UA haven't. Their QBs are going to have to adjust to the pressure they haven't been faced with, that is a benefit for AU.

I'm not exactly optimistic, but I'm also of the understanding that AU does match up well in these games, so there is no reason to take the all is lost approach, just don't have expectations one way or the other. I definitely think this off week will concentrate on the short to intermediate passing game. It is crucial to utilize it against Bama/UGA.

IF they actually adjusted and we get healthy, we could finish well. This year we all will be left with what could have been.

I think Arkansas would still love to get him, no matter what BS they say.

I think he is here next year, anyway.

And the most impressive of those 3 wins was over the one SEC team we lost to

Yeah, I think he will be too. The thing is, if the damned guy would just let go of the offense like he does with the defense, he is a great guy to have represent the program. The money isn't in being a coordinator, he needs to understand that. I'm sure any offensive coordinator would blend in some elements of his offense, because many of them are effective, and I'm sure they want to learn from him. But he needs to give up full control.

I mean Alabama's is 4-16..

I feel we are so overreacting. It was an idiotic game plan to sit on the LSU lead, but maybe, just maybe, it was enough to light a fire under his arse. Arkansas ties aside, he seemed fired up like he knows he has something to prove.

Meh, overreacting or not he will be held at a high level. I don' t get the hate because I think he is a good man, and has brought a lot of talent here. He knows he had to make a change last year and he got Linsey. He chose to interfere and slow play to hold a lead. He has done that in very big games before. I don't fault fans for being upset by that because it frustrates me too.

He has proven to be stubborn, disconnected with the reality of the game. Most anyone could see the momentum changing starting with the 2nd quarter. His comment thinking we are in great shape going into the half and then later saying how many points can they score against our D, was infuriating.

I wish him well and hope he can evolve no matter what happens from here. I had hoped he was ready to make that step at Auburn this year but he made a huge error in judgment a few times. That is the consequences of big time football and I am not excited in firing another coach.

I honestly don't think he's going to be fired. His corrections are being blasted across national media, because quite honestly, the fixes are elementary. I think he'll swallow his pride, relinquish more control, and AU will win 3 of the next 4. Quite honestly, I don't think people realize how well he's recruited in terms of AU. Consistent top 10 classes are a big deal. I think he's going to give up most control and take the CEO approach during games.

Once he was hired, I think most hoped this. Honestly, I would love for him still to prove me wrong and show he can learn from past/poor decisions.

And I hate it when a coach has to be fired. I would much rather he right the ship.

Hopefully, the team continues to heal and get better over the bye.

And even more importantly, hopefully, Gus is able to remove his head from his arse and learn from that awful LSU game.

Was going to say LA Directional School, but this intrigues me. Would keep folks watching. AL.com - former AU head coach loses to Troy!

Gut feeling tells me he is here next year, then retires as the richest HS coach in America. Plus, a reality show on CMT.

How many times has he “given up play calling” or “went with a more ya da off approach”. He won’t. He’s proven over and over again to be a stubborn coach who can’t stay out of his own way.

Not many coaches known for offense quit calling plays. His play calling got him here. If he goes down, grow some balls and go down on your own. Not because your OC screwed up.

Regardless, it's never been blasted across national media like it was after the LSU game. Everyone was calling him an idiot. It's simplistic fixes, everyone knows it, they could see precisely what should have occurred. U think it's going to be an awakening for him.
