Noted bammer.

Does that change with them fricking him out of a HC job? Meaning, if Gus offered, would we have to worry about him pulling a Willis if Kirby left?

Absolutely. When its your profession most of the fandom is thrown out the window..unless it's your alma mater. But even then it doesn't necessarily mean anything.

You coach where they pay your bills and you have a chance for promotion. See Muschamp coaching at UF and AU despite being a UGA grad, Rocker at UGA despite being an AU grad, Garner at UGA, Spurrier at USC, etc. I'm sure the list could go on a mile.

He has stated before that Bama is his dream job. That being said if we hire him I don't think he would leave us in the dust to take the same position at uat.

Is he good enough to be worth taking that chance? I know nothing about him.

I'm from Prattville and played for him so I am biased but I think he would be worth a chance. His record speaks for itself.

I have heard that he is a bammer and big friends with Saban. I think that he was once offered an off-field job at UAT similar to what Kevin Steele did but he turned it down because he wanted an on-field coaching position. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Correct.

As far as being big friends with saban, I don't think saban has any friends.

I use to go to penny beer night there. It was pay a dollar, beer was a penny until someone left or went to the bathroom. One night the ABC board was there inspecting, no underage people were allowed in, just a bunch of damn hard core alcoholics. It started at 7 pm at 1130 some guy buys everybody in there a pitcher (10 cents) and begged to go to the bathroom.

I think so, UAB had the worst defense in the country before he got there. And they looked really good at times this year, if not Muschamp I'd want him. I'm sure he would love to get back at bama for shutting his program down.

They definitely have gone into denial mode. They just keep talking about how much money it is losing and disregarding the fact it was designed to fail by their BOT.

The reasons why have been listed many times so I will not do it again, but overall it is pretty sad what has taken place.

I got to see UNC in UAB last year. Hate it for football program but Bartow built it into basketball.

And UNC lost so take them away too

They go hand-in-hand unfortunately. Without a football program they aren't welcome in C-USA. Same goes if they wanted to move to the Sun Belt.

Other options could be the SOCON where 2 of their 10 current members don't play football. But I don't see the SOCON wanting to add another Birmingham school on top of Samford and make it an uneven 11 teams in most all sports.

Next likely stop if they want to stay in D1 for basketball might be the Big South Conference which has 11 members but none closer to Birmingham than South Carolina. Atlantic Sun has 8 full-time members with Birmingham geographically landing close to their core. If UAB wanted to turn into an HBCU then the MEAC could work maybe.. or SWAC.
OVC (Jacksonville State's conference) has 12 members already.. don't see that one changing.

If that doesn't work they can't hang independently in D1 hoops. Only one school is currently declared independent for next year and that's NJIT. They're not going to last.

If they have to drop to D2 they're heading to play with UNA, UWA, UAH, Delta State, Kentucky State, Union, etc. in the Gulf South.

Geographically that doesn't make much sense at all. That's a lot of long nights and early mornings traveling midweek for basketball. All but 4 schools above the Mason-Dixon line. St. Louis, VCU, George Washington, and George Mason NOVA schools.

I could see them becoming an associate member for a sport or two but not all sports.

I am really growing to hate the Alabama posters on the rant. They think killing UAB football is like the IB part II or something.

A lot of fans and students are really hurting tonight, and they find it funny...

I disagree. They can survive in basketball even as an Independent especially now. Every Booster will pour even more money into the basketball program just in spite to piss off Alabama.

Haase is a good basketball coach, with a lot of ties,I guarantee you Roy will get them to sign another 2-1 deal with them plus many others.

I'm now a big UAB basketball fan now. Go Heels and Go Blazers.

Then you tell me who is willingly going to schedule them when conference play starts up for every single other team from January through the end of February. Once that happens everyone in the country plays two conference games per week and that's it. No nonconference games happen in that two month window.

You can't function that way in college hoops. There's a reason all but one team has joined a conference.
