Burns was named WR coach, and CO-OC. He is paid commensurate with the title and job.
Do we really need to say anymore?
Honestly, bickering over the salary Burns receives is pretty minor if you look at all the other things that should be concerning.

I think we know very little about Auburn football operations.
Our "insiders" told us Gus wanted nothing to do with anything outside of the offense. The truth was, when hired, he was attempting to delegate and be the CEO of the team. Quite the opposite portrait that our fake insiders attempted to paint.
We don't know how Gus actually likes to work. His hires make sense if you believe that he wants to go all-in on his offense again. The proof will be what we see on the field this fall and anything else is mindless speculation.
More than that - Auburn's financial and performance outlook does not change if you decreased each coach's salary by 100K or whatever we are bickering about. That extra half million-million is either spent or isn't. Football operations aren't paid for out of one big bucket. There are many varied revenue sources that don't give the University much incentive to pay less to be frugal. That's everywhere and that's why you're seeing universities spit out the money they are on coaching staff hires

Wouldn't failing to develope WRs in a simple offense be even more of a reason he was a bad coach?

I watched his press conference to

The concept of fans bickering over how much we spend on coaches is unbelievable. It makes no difference. There aren't any salary caps we are working under
I'm just jealous that I'm not overpaid

Parents usually are forgiving like that.

I don't have any notion as to their want to work with Gus, my point was more towards AU as a destination unto itself.
I can't think of a better setting to have a nice long career.
I never said a word about his hiring preferences early on. I think losing DC (if you can call it losing), gives Gus a shot to do it the way he likely wanted to begin with.
That 2013 year may have been a bad thing in the long run. Otherwise, he would easily have one year past this one IMO.

Wouldn't know what that is like. I have no family connections to my field. I also putmyself through Auburn working + scholarships. Other than my parents being kind enough to send me some birthday money, I've been independent for a long time

quote:I don't really think it was a bad thing. It raised expectations when expectations were at an all time low, but Auburn getting steadily worse (according to record) every year is what has him on thin ice. That, along with him being in the SEC, in the same state as Alabama and so forth.
