Day 1 Observations
Stidham worked with the first-team offense
Woody Barrett worked the second team
JF3 Worked with the 3rd team
Offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey worked extensively on quick-release throws on bubble screens and run-pass options with his quarterback. Stidham and Malik Willis had the quickest releases based on my observations, though Woody Barrett showed poise.
Lindsey was very vocal about targeting the ball at or below the numbers and not wide or high as to help bubble screens and RPOs develop quickly and properly.
First team offensive line, from left to right: Darius James, Marquel Harrell, Austin Golson, Mike Horton, Braden Smith
Second team offensive line, from left to right: Prince Tega Wanogho Jr., Tucker Brown, Kaleb Kim, Tyler Carr, Prince Michael Sammons
Linebacker Knney Britt, who will be out for all of spring practice, was seen on the sideline on crutches. He had a heavy wrap on his right knee.
Cornerback Jamel Dean was seen standing to the side with a large brace on his left knee. He’s still recovering from an injury suffered last year in fall camp that will cause him to miss spring practice.
Auburn spent approximately 10 minutes early in practice working on special teams, including field goal block and punt coverage. One notable observation: quarterback John Franklin III and running Kerryon Johnson worked as gunners on the punt team.
Daniel Thomas lined up at Nickel with the first-team defense.
Tre Threat worked at Buck with the second-team defensive line.
The starting defense was as follows: Jeff Holland, Buck; Derrick Brown, defensive tackle; Dontavius Russell, defensive tackle; Marlon Davidson, defensive end; Darrell Williams, linebacker; Tre’ Williams, linebacker; Deshaun Davis, linebacker; Carlton Davis, cornerback; Daniel Thomas, Nickel; Tray Matthews, strong safety; Stephen Roberts, free safety; Javaris Davis, cornerback
Marlon Character Jr. worked with the second-team defense at cornerback, just as he did in bowl practices.
Walk-on Michael Sherwood lined up at Nickel with the second-team defense.
Chandler Wooten was the only newcomer to debut on one of the first two teams. He worked at outside linebacker with the second team. Malcolm Askew, the other true freshman defender, lined up at cornerback with the third team.

I saw a tweet from Vitale(?) about JF3 at QB, he positioned it as JF3 will remain at the QB position in the spring as opposed to move to WR/DB
As in "JF3 will start at QB to begin spring practice" in terms of position

Scott Fountain moving to analyst is pretty odd.Would think other schools would want the 24th ranked recruiter and decent ST coach.

He isn't really the 24th ranked recruiter.

The way 247 calculates recruiter rankings is poor. Plus almost all of his connections are in the state of Alabama.

Interesting development during Auburn's first practice: John Franklin III working both at quarterback and as a gunner on the punt team

Markell Boston will forever be remembered as the guy Will Muschamp yelled at in every spring practice video from 2015.
Every single update there was a clip of Muschamp yelling at Boston
