Surgery for Horace Spencer, but expected to be ready for start of the season. Let's get all this out of the way early this year.

Article on Heron. I really liked this quote from him.

quote:

"High school is over," he says. "We're on to a new level right now. Everybody starts over when they get to college. So none of that high school stuff means anything."

Kid seems like he will be the real deal. That is the attitude you need to have.

Is Purifoy officially cleared yet?

ETA: How tall is Mark Murphy? Isn't Purifoy up around 6'8 now?

Yep. He is good to go.

Guy I know has watched a few practices and he says Purifoy is every bit as tall as Spencer and Smith.

In the interview, Purifoy said he developed a jump shot. What are the expectations of him as a shooter?

Will he be a serious threat if left open outside 12-15+FT or 3PT?

How does Smith look? I imagine athletically he is fine but it was concerning to see a guy that gifted not dominate at Bethune

ETA: Generally how are things shaking out starting lineup/progress wise?

Purifoy has 3 pt range and he knocks them down consistently in practice. His biggest problem wasn't his stroke it was that he had very little lift with his outside shot and it took him a tad to long to get them off. Both have been remedied but there is a difference between doing it in practice and when it really counts.

Smith has gained 10 lbs since arriving and has everything we could ask for defensively. Anything we get out of him on the other end of the court is gravy. They are working on his ft shooting and developing a jump hook but he has a looong way to go.

Johnson, Heron, Purifoy and Spencer are pretty much locked in as starters and right now id give Dunans a slight edge for the other wing spot but Brown and Lang are right there with him.

The two grad transfers are huge question marks to me. I'm just hoping to see a competitive team and young talent gaining experience. Making the NIT would be awesome.

17-18 is what has me really excited.

So what should the 2 deep look like this year?

5- Horace Spencer, Anfernee McLemore
4- Danjel Purifoy, Laron Smith
3 - TJ Dunans, TJ Lang
2 - Mustapha Heron, Bryce Brown
1 - Ronnie Johnson, New Williams/ Jared Harper

That's the most talent we've had since Cliff. Add in Austin Wiley, Davion Mitchell, Desean Murray and one of the in-state PFs from class of 17 and I'm drooling thinking of the 2017-18 season

LaRon Smith only shot 27% from the free throw line last year? My goodness. I can shoot that blindfolded

I need to go to the tiger talk when Bruce is on and ask what it would take to get kids to do Rick Berry FT

I'm convinced we will never be good until we granny style that shite

Getting a blue blood that isn't required (conference member) to come to Auburn is a big deal.

I'm just hoping we can keep it competitive this year. UConn returns some really talented players on top of a great recruiting class that filled their holes.

UConn last year was one of the top rated per possession defenses last year. We are known to struggle against quality Ds
