Yeah, the fallout is going to be pretty substantial unless we sell our souls and empty our bank accounts for a Pruitt/Orgeron combo with an increased bagman budget.

Probably. But you know what? We've had decent to good (sometimes great) talent on defense for years and our defenses have been crap.
Maybe a guy like Ruffin McNeil is just what we need. A non-exciting option who just grinds at coaching up what we've got.
Or maybe not. All I know is that past big names and big recruiters have failed so far. Doesn't mean they'd fail again, but over the last 7 or so years, they sure don't have a very good track record.

Yeah, it's baffling, but all signs point to one constant during that time frame, and I wasn't ready to get on that bandwagon yet.

Lolley isn't the DC we need, but he is the DC we deserve

Carlton Davis is still happy with his choice to attend Auburn. Our best defensive freshman is going to stick around

Do we lose all the croots or just the ones worth a shite?

Sounds good considering Benedict Robinson was at his in-home a while ago.

Sounds like he found him a white woman. Good job sluts of Auburn

We are not failing because we have defensive talent, we are failing in spite of having defensive talent. Removing talent from the equation isn't going to fricking work.

I do wonder about the talent Auburn has on defense. Most of them are definitely athletic enough, but they seem to be out of position too much. Even with Muschamp's schemes, things broke down much too often. Part of that is down to a new scheme and the apparent failings of Ellis Johnson, but it does make me wonder about the collective football IQ.

Pretty much every kid we have on defense was offered by some or most of the major programs in the SEC. Its not talent. Its development

I think one problem we see is a cluster of defensive players that specialize in different schemes (or recruited to play different schemes).
When you have a new DC every year you also have a new or different recruiting philosophy based upon what you want to do as a defense. 3-4, 4-2-5,4-3, with different size athletes depending upon what you want each position group to accomplish.
Essentially we have a locker room full of players that are meant to play specific positions for previous coordinators that may not fit the current coordinator. Which leads to a lack of continuity in development

Every since Tater Tot fired Wayne Hall, the longest tenure for any DC at Auburn has been 3 years I believe.

The tragedy of this is that if Malzahn cannot right the ship, we are back to instability again after next season.
So, it is official we did not offer T Rob the DC position? If so, that sucks.
I find it interesting how different other schools viewed replacing a DC/OC. The LSU fans think tons of up and comers would gladly come work for Les even if he only has one year --- we are much more skeptical.
I think we are more correct than they are.

Not at all saying they aren't good football players. Football IQ is somewhat teachable. I just meant that I wonder if we have a lot of guys who got by on pure athleticism in high school. That coupled with only 1 good year of coaching while switching to a 3-4 can be very problematic.
It's like the high school QB who got by purely on arm strength and forcing passes into coverage. He is going to struggle in college until he can get some consistent coaching about how to read defenses and make better decisions. I'm not suggesting the players we have cannot be good players. I simply think they may be lacking on their fundamentals, which is easily fixable. That's probably way too posi for you though.

This absolutely cannot be discredited. It makes it hard for the S&C to mold guys how you want them when it keeps changing. It also means guys can end up being stuck between systems in their body types.
