But the players and coaches from 2004 and 1983 deserve to be recognized as much as others that have been recognized elsewhere. It's not about what the fans want, it's about what the players and those involved deserve.

Their seasons stand in honor in and of themselves, and all that should matter at the end of the day is the connection and pride both fan/player have, not some bullshite retroactive claim/label that other schools have already etched into their stadiums.

Not a fan of claiming 04. I'll support claiming 83. Don't know enough about 1913 to decide.

I don't think '04 is actually on the list for serious consideration. I believe it is '13, '83, '93.

Here is the argument for 1913:

quote:

As you can see, 6 of their 8 opponents had winning records, 2 lost only to Auburn, and the last 5 teams they played were a combined 30-9-3, 30-4-3 when not playing Auburn, and 29-3-1 when not playing Auburn or each other. That's pretty impressive, and it's why some computer programs like Auburn as #1 for 1913. And Auburn performed strongly against that schedule, winning just one game by a touchdown or less (7-0 over LSU).

Additionally we outscored our opponents 224-13 and no one even scored a point against us until UGA in the second to last game of the season.

The argument against 1913 is the North was considered stronger than the South in football at the time and we did not play a northern team.

I'm personally down with 1913, but don't care much either way.

1983 is a no-brainer. Most knowledgeable college football fans already know we were the champs in 1983.

1993 I oppose. I really think JJ threw this one in as kinda a make-up for 2004. I remember 1993 well. We should not have beaten FL or Bama in 1993. They were better, but we had the 99 yard Calvin Jackson pick 6 that kept us from probably getting destroyed by Spurrier. Then a raucous Jordan Hare lost its mind and made the difference in the IB in the second half against bama after they dominated us for most of the game. We would have played the best FSU team they ever had under Bowden in the Sugar Bowl IF we were able to beat FL in Atl in a rematch which I highly doubt we could have done.

JJ has a problem with 2004. I personally think we were the best team in the country and would have beaten USC in an epic game (but barely and they could have easily beaten us as well). The problem with claiming it is the BCS did exist then and unfortunately, OU did finish at #2. End of the day though, USC was stripped of the title so I would be ok with us claiming it but can see why we won't.

Oh, OK.

But still, AU was the ONLY team, after USC's NCAA penalties, that finished that year undefeated.

Not USC.

Not Oklahoma.

Auburn.

To some of us, its not that big of a deal. Why shouldn't we claim 1913, 1983, or 2004? For the first two, there were no legitimate titles back then, just OPINION polls. And AFAIC one opinion poll is just as good as another. And in 2004, I have no doubt we were the best team. And, in the end, the ONLY undefeated team. So there is no reason why we shouldn't claim that one as well.

To those who seem against it, it seems to me like y'all are afraid of getting your feelings hurt because the Big Mean Bama and UGA fans might make fun of you about it.

this

Auburn should claim them and to hell with what others think about it. In 50 years, no one will be talking about it

I'm fine claiming the ones we deserve. 1913 and 1983. IMO claiming 2004 is a mistake, no matter how salty we are about missing out.

Don't know enough about the 1913 one to say. All I know is we didn't play the game in 04 and I'm not a fan of claiming something we didn't win on the field. Period. (gumps).
