I will go back to my original, and always, statement about him.

He is a great kid, a very good passer and would be a great QB in someone elses system.

But he is not the QB we need. He is a 7-8 game winner for us and that will be close to our ceiling. We will not win any championships with him or his stye of QB with Gus as a head coach

To be a championship team with Gus, we need a running Qb

Love what Sean is doing. He has some issues to clean up, but he is a 8 game winner with our schedule, maybe 9 at the absolute best.

This, this, this.

Really Lanier? COME ON, MAN!

Cam Newton *made* Gus Malzahn, not the other way around.

And not a single HS recruit is gonna be impressed at Gus's ability to make college QBs into NFL practice squad DBs. If you think THAT is a recruiting selling point? Oh my lawd.

I will go back to the post I made back after the Kentucky game last year where I said this exact same thing and everyone went tard on me.

Its not about Sean. I love his effort and ability. Coaches are not the right coaches for him.

This is stupid because if we let him play against Clemson and didn't go full retard on the calls against aTm then we're sitting at 6-0 or 5-1 at worst and looking at a 10 season as probably the worst case scenario at this point.

Sean White could absolutely be a championship QB, even for us. It's the coaches fault and not his ot anybody else on the team that we're not still in position for one right now.

no sense in telling them this...they believe that winning championships requires a duel threat Qb and pocket passers can only win 7-8 wins

Not really. You cant not use that analogy. "IF" one second more had been on the clock, we lose to LSU. The defense won that game. Not the offense.

Our offense was not this consistent when we played Clemson with Sean in there. Just as theirs was not. We are better now and they are better now. If we played them tomorrow, they would still win. Yes we had a chance against them but we did not take advantage of it.

We are in position to win a good many of our remaining games. But you are crazy if you are looking at our schedule and think its going to be easy to go to Bama, UGA and Oxford and win. We could do it but we are underdogs in all those games

*sigh*

I sure hope that New Cam Newton is almost ready to be picked from the Quarterback Tree.

My god, how long do we have to wait dammit?

I think its obvious that a QB of Cams ability is not going to come knocking that often but a Nick Marshall, Das Prescott, JT Barrett guy is out there. Its just a matter of our coaches finding him and not fricking him up.

That style of QB is out there. More and more these days actually. Lets not act like it will never happen again

Again, I don't disagree.

But the new Barretts and Prescotts and possibly even the Marshalls are going to want to play for coaches who let them throw it more than 3 times in the 2nd half.

Ain't gonna impress the NFL scouts by handing the ball off or running it around the end on a keeper.

You would think but we got Cam, and we got Nick. We will get someone else to come. Nick threw the ball a good bit so I don't think we only ran it.

I would really love for someone like Woody to be that guy and actually play 3 years for us. It would be so odd going into the spring practice knowing pretty much who the QB was going to be. It has been a long time since that happened. Next year will be another year where the QB position will be "up for grabs" . I think the team settles in faster knowing who the qb will be from the beginning of practice

When Gus was still living on his Tulsa "slinger" reputation.

we got Nick

After Gus had let his Arky State QB throw the shite out of the ball.

Again, QBs out of high school want to throw the ball. If Gus's every action is to convince the world he's scared to death of throwing the ball, eventually the world is going to be convinced.

Probably just something we should agree to disagree on. I understand the idea of what you are saying. I just don't think QB's looking at coming to Auburn would be scared us due to our style of play on offense. Like I said, I get it but I just don't see that being our issue

I don't know too many starting QBs that consistently throw in the second half of a 35pt scoring margin.

I am pissed we were handing it off to Pettway instead of Kam Martin/Truitt, why either JF3 or Barrett weren't given live snaps to practice throwing + catching for younger guys like NCM/KD/Stove

Would have been tough to put him in since he was in Auburn.

I was glad to see JF3 in there but he didn't get many snaps

Guys like Marshall don't have big program opportunities to play QB, Auburn would be the only major QB offer out of HS. Same with guys like Lamar Jackson or Justin Thomas at GTech, who were recruited by most top programs as DBs

I don't know if I trust our ability to both identify those talents then develop them from that raw state though

Absolutely.

If Gus and Rhett's philosophy is "keep recruiting and throwing the running QB into our grinder until the next Cam/Nick pops out", then we are well and truly fricked.

Personally, from a recruiting and performance standpoint, I think it would be a helluva thing if we could, you know, DEVELOP a guy who can fricking PASS the ball rather than cross our fingers that we'll finally luck into one popping out of the grinder.

JF3 has attempted only 1 pass in 3 games where we ahd blowout leads.

It is scary as shite to think that our backup QB, who is reportedly very inconsistent, has all of 5 passes under his belt.

Didn't realize that Well in general Gus seems slow to do that
