Why? K J, Pettway, Malik and Cox would have been sufficient.
Because Chandler Cox and Kam Pettway were recruited for h-back, where they fit better. And if you take them away from that position and let them play running back, who plays h-back? Nobody else has valuable experience, and Auburn thrives with a good to great h-back. See 2010, 2013 and 2014. Eric Smith and Jay Prosch did wonders.

Auburn was thin at running back with Jovon Robinson, Kerryon Johnson and Malik Miller. We needed Kam Martin, IMO.

Hell, if times got desperate, we could move Rudy Ford back to offense and still be good.
Again, he's more valuable on defense. He can play nickel and safety, excels at both and is an incredible tackler with a nose for the ball. He's also a defensive leader now.

Moving him to running back would be retarded.

We did recruit them to play HB

Yet to be determined.

there are two FBs. They can alternate playing RB.

As TigerProwl likes to caution... I'm not very good at scouting. However, as a fan that has (foolishly) watched recruiting tapes for 10 years now I'm impressed with his ability to line up anywhere in the backfield and out wide. I know some Baylor folks worried about his blocking ability because of his system in HS but for his role in our offense he shouldn't need to block out of the backfield. If he can get on campus soon and begin working on blocking from the slot then I think we'll see him on the field quickly.

I chuckled when I read this. I've never once cautioned you about your scouting prowess. We both have watched film for a long time. Me.. just a little longer. Even Scouts that do it for a good living, don't always get it right..

I agree he won't have to block much, because the staff will either give it to him in space or use him as a decoy. I think he sees the field the fastest returning kicks. After JR graduates, he will fit the OMAC role and I don't remember worrying about OMAC's blocking ability.
