Martin signs with AU

I was beginning to think that we were in trouble behind JR at the RB spot. This is really good news for us.

As TigerProwl likes to caution... I'm not very good at scouting. However, as a fan that has (foolishly) watched recruiting tapes for 10 years now I'm impressed with his ability to line up anywhere in the backfield and out wide. I know some Baylor folks worried about his blocking ability because of his system in HS but for his role in our offense he shouldn't need to block out of the backfield. If he can get on campus soon and begin working on blocking from the slot then I think we'll see him on the field quickly.

Good thing is he shouldn't have to be a good blocker to start contributing right away as that fly sweep option. He has time to work on that part of his game to be a more complete back but he can step on campus Day 1 & helps us in that OMac/Grant role

Hopefully him & Truitt get some touches this season in that sweep role. We have missed having that could go at any moment speed out there. Louis was solid but he wasn't a put foot in ground and go type of athlete. Both of those guys can leave people behind if given a chance

I said I would not do this anymore but I'm not sure this helps us with being in trouble behind JR. Kid is 178 pounds. Not sure he can be our guy if JR goes down.

His impact is more indirect. Martin being on the roster in fall allows KJ to stay in an everydown back role which gives us a guy to rep at RB with Jovon that will be a change of pace.

Not sure KJ is our work horse either.

We still need another big back. Barber leaving threw a wrench in the system

We're definitely in bad shape should Jovon go down the the season or even a chunk of it. KJ is unproven as an everydown back but I'm viewing depth as a problem even if Jovon stays healthy all year. There aren't many Tre Masons out there that can take the rock 40 times a game. I don't see Jovon as that guy and KJ will be essential to keeping Jovon fresh. It's tougher to do that if KJ is lining up all over the place to fill in for Roc

Basically, I'm more nega on the RB situation that you are I think

Obviously the jury is out on Malik Miller, but from the all accounts from spring should be a solid option. I think people are overlooking the potential role that Kam Pettway may have at the TB position. The guy has much better wheels than people realize and I think he could be a Payton Barber-esque option. I don't think he's gonna be just an H back this year.

Is a full back that can tote the rock. Everyone seems to forget that the kid had 3,000 rushing yards in high school.

I feel about Pettway the same as I do about Sean White.

Pretty sure they can both do the job. Unexcited about seeing either do it, however.

Why? K J, Pettway, Malik and Cox would have been sufficient. Hell, if times got desperate, we could move Rudy Ford back to offense and still be good.

Its a skill position that none of our guys have any history for us. Its just a guessing game and none of them behind Jovon really fit the eye test at this time.

Yes Pettway looked good in the spring game but once they load up against him, it wont be as easy. His quickness may keep him from being the every down back. We just dont know. Cox really isn't a running back. He is a H back who can catch very well. Just dont see that one.

Malik? Possibly. We just dont know. I am hopeful for him. KJ is what he is. And he is very good at it. But I dont see him pounding that thing in there every game 20 times.

We are just a little short on a "Typical" Auburn back behind Jovon.

Kenny Irons
Ben Tate
Mike Dyer
Tre Mason
C. Payne
Jovon

Certainly we will get one soon but lets all just hope Jovon ends up being what we think he is and that he stays healthy.

If we're starting Pettway, Malik or Cox at RB and you aren't worried at all, I don't know what to say

If we have KJ as starting RB and Pettway as the short yardage guy I'm not worried.

I'm not too worried about having two starting running backs get injured AND someone not at least adequate to fill in

Glad we could snag a solid player to replace Roc. Seems things are falling into place.

So he would count towards the 2016 class, correct?
