Regardless, he still played a year of JUCO. He got much needed experience.

Gus's starting QBs at Auburn:

Chris Todd
Cam Newton
Clint Moseley/Barrett Trotter
(Recruited Kiehl Frazier)
Nick Marshall
Jeremy Johnson/Sean White

The three best (Chris Todd, Cam Newton, Nick Marshall) all played in JUCO. The others sucked at best. You can say what you want about Nick Marshall's JUCO career, but there is no doubt he was prepared when he came to Auburn. There's just been no QB development when a kid graduated high school and comes to play here under Gus. Deer in the headlights comes to mind.

JUCOs develop QBs.

The new saying since Cam Newton came to Auburn.

You would be laughed off any forum before 2010.

Are you stupid or just stubborn? Look at the trend, look at the college playing experience that comes with playing in JUCO, not to mention that all three of those QBs spent time playing at FBS schools (2 in the SEC) and then you tell me.

I think the point you are making is valid. I also believe our offense is run by a player who is experienced in playing football against a higher level of competition. But I don't think that you can necessarily say that Juco is always the best. I still have faith in Sean, and he played against/with some insane talent in high school. Hope he proves me right.

I'm sure he did and he was a great QB in high school. But comparing playing in high school and playing in college is apples and oranges. Some players just don't pan out and that's been a major concern over the last 7 years.

I totally agree, but expecting Sean to come in here with the lack of play makers around him and the cluster**** of play calling is unrealistic. My point is that most of the busts on that list excluding Jeremy played against not so hot competition or played on high school teams that were much much more talented than the teams that they played against. I think this directly effects how a QB reacts when things don't go his way. They start doubting their own ability and look like they are overwhelmed. The successful QBs from our past few years have come from programs that played great competition and had challenges in HS that prepared them to step into the limelight.

LOL

Am I getting to you?

I love it when a poster has to start off his post with an attack. Really drives home their point.

Yeah bro, Chris Todd was totally developed before Gus. That's why I'm sure you didn't boo him off the field in 2008.

I mean, wasn't he just astounding in 2008? Wasn't he?

And Nick Marshall... let me tell you. He was so developed out of JUCO that half this board thought that JJ would start as a TF. Not to mention, that whole DB playing QB thing that never happened.

Oh yeah, and of course you seem to be focused on only 3 JUCO QBS in the entire history of JUCO QBs. That must mean that every JUCO QB in the entire history of the SEC he were developed in JUCO then in your extremely deep research analysis.

Meh. Both will still probably double up our win total this season.

Judging coaches on one season, eh?

Bold move cotton.

Now deflect it some more.

Yeah, I'm beginning to believe you are a little impaired. Not an attack, just the most logical explanation for why you're making up these ridiculous claims. As for Chris Todd, considering he played for two different offensive coordinators, the Tuberville-BBQ gang-Air Raid mashup philosophy, and was injured throughout the whole season, I think he did pretty well. And I'm not sure what makes you think Gus was going to start JJ in 2013. I never remember seeing that on this board. Also, yes I am focusing on those three JUCO QBs because we are talking about Gus Malzahn's reputation with developing quarterbacks (or lack thereof), not "the history of JUCO QBs". It's actually pretty simple - the three QBs who did best for Malzahn all had college playing experience before they started for him. The others were complete failures and that's putting it mildly. I'm not sure what's so difficult to understand here.

It's been an awful year of coaching, but no reason to fire Gus yet. We are still going to a bowl game, sucky one I know, but even with our terrible qb play and coaching we managed to keep almost every game close. I believe Gus turns it around next year and we see a much better team.
