I think I know you. Was your great grandfather in charge of buying the rivets for the Titanic?

OK some questions:

1. Wouldn't putting a "roof" on the thing cut down on the expense of upkeep since it would keep the elements out?

2. Do engineers put a "life span" on these types of structures? Or is it just an assumption that with correct upkeep you can keep them viable for as long as you want?

3. How far down do the supports go into the ground? I assume you need to hit bedrock?

No, because then they would have had to air condition a lot of it. How it's designed now allows for a wind tunneling effect.

Structural steel does require paint upkeep. I'll ask him the maintenance cycle for that particular steel tomorrow. But beyond that, the steel will outlast its intended usefulness.

I don't know the exact depth, but I do know there are challenges there, as there is a creek where the stadium sits now. I'll ask tomorrow for the foundation depth.

Just my general curiosity. Only ask if you are interested in those questions yourself

I have some kind of strange structural phobia. Seeing those pictures scares the shite out of me.

I think it's because I really have no concept of how engineering works, so I don't have any concept of how the thing doesn't just fall over.

You would have hated it, as the walk way was see-through grating and flexed when you walked on it.

It's 35' to the bedrock with a 10' rock socket. The steel maintenance cycle is hopefully 10 years.

I would assume he's speaking in terms of long, stressful hours. It's doubtful he's referring to job prospects, as they've had 100% job placement for a while now.
