ACL tears aren’t career debilitating. He has Dr. Andrews doing the surgery, hopefully he comes back stronger than it was.

I’m so sad for him. But I pray he has a full and speedy recovery. War Eagle, Chuma.

I'm no doctor, but upon some half-assed internet research, it seems recovery has improved dramatically for basketball players. Sometime around the turn of the century vast improvements were made to the surgery and rehab process to where some guys come back almost without missing a beat, whereas in the 80's it was a career ender for most.

Zach Lavine is first and most recent example that comes to mind.. NBA guard in his twenties who relies heavily on his athleticism to score. And despite the franchise being extra cautious with him, he was back almost to his previous form in less than a year.

Hope he has a 100% recovery and makes $$$ in the NBA. ACL’s aren’t that problematic if in the right surgeons hands. And Andrews is the best in the business...

Now I'm googling successful NBA ACL recoveries.

I saw the news online and immediately Googled the same thing.

Good news is there are a lot of NBA players who tore an ACL and came back and had successful careers

Some new procedures are cutting the rehab time in half. I guess it depends on how bad it was but generally in the past it was 8-12 months.

He was starting to get lottery pick talk but wasn't quiet there yet. He may have to return to Auburn and prove himself again to scouts.

That’s my thought. He may be able to return around conference play. I doubt he’s a 1st Rounder at this point, but he should still get an evaluation.

I know some of you guys are young so I’ll show you how much ACL injuries and surgery has evolved.

In the 1996-97 season, Derek Anderson from Kentucky tore his AC L vs Auburn in mid-late January. He had surgery, and by the time the NCAA tourney came around...he was dressed and shot technical free throws for the team. He was still a lottery pick in 1997 and played 11 seasons in the NBA, but him getting hurt probably cost Kentucky a 3-peat.

So I think Chuma will be fine. He was becoming a star, I hate it ended like this.

Wtf are you talking about?

Start of next season is 7 months away. It will be a miraculous recovery for him to be "good to go" by then.

A lot of basketball players take a year or longer to get back on the court

I would count it as a win if Chuma is back in form my March of next year

Most people seem to take 6-9 months just to get back on the court.

Then it probably will be another 1-2 months to get back into game shape

Then it will take some unknown amount of time for him to trust his knee and get back the feel of the game

So the money question is - does he fall out of first round as a result of his injury? If I were a GM taking in the later rounds I would absolutely take a gamble on him. I can’t think of 20 players in college basketball better than he has been lately.

This year's draft? Absolutely. May even make him a gamble next year too unless his recovery is miraculous

Okeke pre injury has been a difficult prospect for scouts to judge. By NBA standards he is undersized as a stretch 4 but only average NBA athleticism to be a true 3. His skillset right now is good but not realy "elite" in any category

I can see Okeke becoming a 5-15 pick still. If he can become an elite 3FG shooter and primary scorer, his injury history won't be holding him back

is 7 months. That isn't unheard of.

It is gonna take time to trust his knee again, but he should be playing again in November.
