I am just saying if an LSU QB hit Quinn in stride, that hit is right between the numbers and legal as Quinn isn't as low to the ground and stopping for the hit.

Back to practice.

Looks like Tony Stevens might be out for a while seeing the picture in the article. Hopefully ready for fall.

He hurt it towards the end of the scrimmage I believe. Walked off iirc, so I doubt it is too serious. I'm sure he'll be out the rest of spring though as a precaution.

I hope we get a pic of him and Jeremy Johnson standing next to each other so people can see how comparable they are in size.

There was a pic last year on Johnson's instagram account but it's been deleted.

Practice 12 quotes of note LINK
quote:

Malzahn on possibility of rain for A-Day game

“We are going to play football. We are going to put the football down and have fun with it. We expect our crowd to be there. We’re going to be there and look forward to having fun with it.”

Swain on the transition from junior college

“You are going from a pond into an ocean. I knew it was going to be pretty hard.”

Ray on quarterback Jeremy Johnson

“We’ve been comfortable with him since last year. Now that it’s his time to shine, we have all the confidence in the world in Jeremy. He’ is going to be dangerous. He can run a lot better than people think. We obviously know what he can do throwing the ball. He’s going to be special.”

Kozan on missing all of last season

“I’m not going to lie. It wasn’t easy. It was rough. I was able to grow through that. Me and Carl both were. We both felt like we were about to have some pretty good seasons. Obviously, it was disappointing.”

Coleman on the Kozan’s return

“It’s great having him back. He’s a big leader on the offensive line. He has a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience so he can help the younger guys out. And he’s competitive.”

Ray on wide receiver Jason Smith

“First of all, he caught on really fast. With our offense going 100 miles per hour, that’s where guys get caught up coming in. Everything is moving so fast that they get confused. It probably has to do with him being a quarterback and knowing what’s what, but he caught on really fast. He’s such an athlete. We depend on him on to make plays, and he’s going to do that for us.”

Coleman on defensive end Carl Lawson

“We’ve faced off a little bit. He looks better than when he was playing. He’s a hard worker. I’m not surprised at all at the progression he’s made.”

Swain on Saturday’s A-Day game

“It’s going great. It’s fun to go out there and go against Coach Muschamp’s defense. We are getting better going out there and grinding every day. It’s been pretty fun.”

Ray on the possibility of catching more passes

“I’m just trying to be consistent every day, and if my number is called be ready. We have a really good receiving corps. We should have numerous weapons out there who can be the go-to guy at any moment.”

Swain on defensive coordinator Will Muschamp

“You try not to get on Coach Muschamp’s bad side. You try to do that perfect. You do that and you’re on his good side. He’s intense. He brings it every day. Even when you are down and moody, he tries to wake you up. We are the younger guys, and we think he’d be down. But there’s no down with Coach Muschamp.”

Kozan on being back

“I was able to learn some things on the sideline, kind of take a step back and see the team through a bigger picture than just the o-line. I learned some things. Obviously, I would have traded it to have played, but I’m just excited to be back.”

Coleman on his journey since being diagnosed with leukemia

“It really is crazy. I was actually thinking about that the other day, where I am and where I was about five years ago. Just to be here at Auburn is a blessing. To be playing football, that’s just extra, getting a degree and being able to go out there and compete with my teammates.”

Coleman on whether he would like to go early to the NFL

“I have another year after this year. I’d love to stay here as long as I can.”

Malzahn on last Saturday’s scrimmage

“You can tell on both sides of the ball that our guys are understanding the standard as far as effort. I thought the execution was better on both sides. Some of the young guys are starting to figure out what the expectations are. I took away that guys are trying to play physical and trying to do what they are asked to do.”

Malzahn on Tuesday’s practice

“I was really pleased today. I really felt like overall our guys had great energy. ... The last week of spring, a lot of times guys will let up a little bit, especially before the big spring game. But our guys had as much energy as they’ve had all spring.”

If it does rain, can we just let the walkons slug it out? Maybe make it interesting for the crowd by, I don't know.....making them play without helmets?

We keep hearing this, but Malzahn barely runs the hurry up any more. Maybe it was Marshall that couldn't run it fast enough, but there is a big difference between Oregon and Baylor and us.

That's because to truly run any variation of the HUNH you have to not sub players. Gus subs quite a bit because different players do better in different packages. If we can get skill players that do a number of things well we will sub less & thus go faster.

Jonathan Jones had foot surgery
quote:

Senior Auburn cornerback Jonathan Jones has undergone foot surgery, AuburnUndercover has learned. His status for preseason practice in August is uncertain. The injury is not thought to be career-threatening.

Jones, a second-team All-SEC selection last season, has missed most of spring practice. It was hoped the foot would not require surgery, but sources say the decision was made in recent days that surgery would be the best option.

Jones intercepted six passes, broke up 11 and was in on 36 tackles last season.

With Jones sidelined, senior Joshua Holsey and sophomore Stephen Roberts are the likely starting cornerbacks in Saturday's A-Day game at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

If jones can't go, we're in a world of hurt at CB. Pass rush will help, and a lot of teams are breaking in new QBs.... but we've got a serious talent gap at corner.

The safeties should be better, especially with Matthews.

While true, Auburn should be upgraded at DE, DT, LB and S. Our improved pass rush should negate some of what we lack there.

Besides, when's the last time we actually had quality cornerbacks? Guys like Ryan White, Chris Davis, John Mincy, T'Sharvan Bell and so forth were mediocre at best, IMO.
