NCAA Division I Bylaw 11.1.1.1 states that a head coach is presumed to be responsible for the actions of all staff members who report, directly or indirectly, to the head coach. The head coach will be held accountable for violations in the program unless he or she can rebut the presumption of responsibility.Feb 8, 2016

Bruce is in a tight spot, not sure how he will try and rebut his presumption of responsibility. Especially with Person being his head assistant, and the NCAA still having a hard on for him.

If the head coaches of Ok. State, Auburn. U.S.C, etc... were smart they would all huddle up and figure a way as a group to get out of this mess.

Who knows what info will come out. It may not come down to a technicality for him.

The fact that Person was taking payments should be enough to cover Bruce's a**. The argument would be Person did it for personal financial gain and not for Auburn.

That arguemnt though hinges on this being a solo rogue act by Person with no AU personnel involvement

It seems to me as if the Person arrest is somewhat incidental to the bigger focus--- adidas.

I am not sure the NCAA can walk and chew gum at the same time and this might implicate more schools, esp if that one guy Merl Code I think --- cops a plea and dishes out all the schools he worked with to direct players.

If one other coach knew or participated then everyone will be gone.

I would imagine lot of agents and lawyers talking today. You have to hold the HC somewhat responsible other wise just have your assistants pay for players and fire them when they get caught.

Head coaches should be in the clear in terms of direct involvement. An audio recording the FBI has says this

quote:

According to a transcript of comments by the prospective agent, Christian Dawkins, the path to securing commitments from college athletes was through assistant coaches, because head coaches “ain’t willing to [take bribes], cause they’re making too much money. And it’s too risky.”

I'm sure they'll punish the schools/coach, but it won't be super serious

The FBI/reports really are painting these coaches out to be taking bribes rather than delivering recruits.

That is why there has to be sanctions, but I don't think the sanctions will fall at the feet of the hc with a ban or show cause or loic.

I'd imagine each team implicated ends up with a failure to monitor (HC + AD) + probation as long as it is limited to 1 assistant coach + no head coaches.

I think we also remove Jay Jacobs as well... finally
