I'd guess outside of gift walk on scholly's we are probably around 70ish players. SEC level talent probably 45-50 players. Players playing at an SEC level 10-15. 2 of those are kickers

How many players are redshirting? It seems like we were around 70 when the season started.

Harsin

Why is this even a thing? Just let the players who haven't already played in 4 games quietly redshirt, if that's what they want to do.

Although I do have to argue against my disdain for Harsin a little bit. If he's still the coach then he should be making redshirting decisions not players. I understand it's moving to a "players market" but does any one think Saban or Kirby would allow a player to tell them they are gonna redshirt.

I agree with what was posted earlier. If things continue down this path to where it's complete free agency and buying players and you are playing for your own personal brand then I will probably check out of watching college football all together.

I'll find a DIII school to follow. To get my fix or just travel around the state watching high school football games.

I'd like to thank King for not thanking Harsin. If that message is lost on our PTBs then Auburn is fricked. Can anyone think of a single thing, real or imagined, being gained by keeping this fricktard on the payroll?

FWIW, Charlie5, who I think most people consider to have decent information regarding players (who knows), is saying Harsin is telling guys that want to redshirt that they can play or quit.

I really don't see the issue. Volunteering to redshirt is basically quitting, just for the year. And just because they are going to the portal doesn't mean they have to leave.

This is a terrible move in this day and age. We’re going to end up with a roster full of Barton Lester’s.

ETA: if you think recruits that relate with these players don’t notice, you’re kidding yourself. This is a bad look for Auburn. Not just Harsin.

Redshirts unless medically out for the season generally aren't announced until after the season. I think only one true freshman has played in 5 games and off the top of my head right this second I can't think who it is. It'll come to me though lol

The new normal is kids transferring and/or sitting out to keep their eligible year. It sucks but it's turned into they are looking for greener pastures 24/7. College football will be unrecognizable in 10 years. I expect all athletes will unionize by then

This times 100. I would also add that the NCAA has basically opened the door leading to its own destruction.

The player I was thinking about is Micah Riley-Ducker. I think he has played in 5 games so far this season mostly on special teams if I'm not mistaken

We can expect more of the same until Harsin is fired.

Oh yes, interim coach will surely do a better job at keeping talent at Auburn

Redshirting is as much strategy that players can use for their own careers than strategy that coaches can use to mitigate roster challenges. We don’t run the wishbone anymore. I wish you and Harsin would come back to reality in 2022. Players cannot just put full faith of their decision making into a coaching staff that is only interested in the best players playing on the field. The rest of the players has to decide what’s next next, and consequently seldom used players opt for a great opportunity of a redshirt.

If Harsin (which will be a fired boss and his opinion on our roster next year meaningless ) can put redshirts on players he can accept them. Please tell me some more about how the players are bought in/ rallying for Harsin!

No, it’s a matter of players doing the right thing. Taking a redshirt to preserve a year of eligibility to transfer at the end of the season is sorry. Be a man and live up to your end of the bargain. If you want to transfer at season end fine but don’t expect a free lunch while you wait on greener pastures.

The biggest issue is the players thanking Gus and not even mentioning Harsin. Everyone wants Harsin gone, and the faster the better.

However volunteering to redshirt is quitting on the team.
