The thing that gets me about these kinds of transfers is that kids will transfer to a lower classification school for playing time, but forget they also will (hopefully) get a degree from a lesser school.

Im proud of that diploma that says Auburn on it that hangs on my wall. I'd hate to give so much to a place and not get the degree unless I had a serious shot at the NFL.

A couple of thoughts.

Student choses Bama over all Ivy League schools

Students regularly accept full rides to Alabama, Auburn, and other SEC schools over Ivy league schools for a combination of the right financial package plus entrance to selective, elite programs offered by these universities. It typically happens with less fanfare but it happens often. What these kids and their families understand is that a key component to making any degree worth while is what you are able to accomplish while in college. The opportunities afforded to kids at these SEC schools make it more attractive to them than the name of an Ivy League school on their diploma.

Translation (I know nothing about Kam Metlton): If an Auburn player rides the bench and coasts through a business/sociology/criminal justice degree then they may as well start for JSU/UNA/USA and coast through a degree there.

My Auburn undergraduate degree will always hang above my Alabama graduate degree because I want people in my office to ask me about Auburn so I can tell them about the research I was able to accomplish there. My connections to that research project and to the alumni from that department is what landed me my job out of college. It is what made Auburn a wise investment for me. Elsewise, there were plenty of Georgia schools I could have paid cheaper, in-state tuition to.

To my knowledge, Ivy League schools do not give athletic scholarships.

They give academic scholarships in lieu of athletic ones

Being an Ivy League Football Alumnus > 99% of scholarships + being booster paid for 4 years

More importantly, Ivy League doesn't officially have "athletic scholarships" but there is no one that is accepted and playing sports that doesn't have more than enough financial aid

Nowadays, majority of Ivy league schools give "need based" which according to my FB playing Ivy League friend, it means "Whatever they 'need' to come to school there"

You guys totally whiffed on the point of my post and have started talking about something completely off topic.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Albeit good as most of your points are, I think they just went on their own tangent not giving much thought to your post to even try to get your point.

Kamryn is a really good kid, who really wants to play football. I wish him and his family the best.

The frick is up with the downvotes?

For lurking gumps: I would like to add the advice given concerning getting a diploma doesn't necessarily extend to Bama players. A Bama diploma can help if one runs out of toilet paper, but doesn't necessarily mean a lot in many other circumstances.

Hope he succeeds wherever he transfers. If I had to guess I'd put my money on Troy since he's from Dothan.
Rig wins the guessing game.

Melton indeed transferred to Troy.
